*bump*

I seem to remember that as well. Saruman had made his own little Vanilla Ice type wannabe ring and Gandalf saw it when he was detained by Saruman IIRC.

If anyone's around I have another question:

Where were the Towers of the Teeth, what were their names, and who built them?

Carchost & Narchost, guarding the Morannon (Black Gate) at Cirith Gorgor.
Originally constructed by the men of Gondor after Sauron's defeat in the Second Age to keep watch on Mordor.

That creepy little Mim was one.
It was the fetid halitus of the most diseased mortality condensed to its essence and elevated to the transcendence of prophecy, promise, suzerain truth—the definitive commandment of darkness.

Yes, Mim!
I think the name means "lesser dwarves" or something. They were the earliest Dwarves to arrive in Beleriand, but were almost gone by the First age. I think Mim was one of the last, and was a bit "tricksy and false" if I remember rightly!

Another Silmarillion question:
Which High King of the Noldor challenged Morgoth to one-on-one combat after the "Battle of Sudden Flame" (Dagor Bragollach)?

Fingolfin. My absolute favorite bad-ass mo-fo Noldor elf.

My trivia, might be easy maybe not. I think this was only referenced once....

What is a sleeping Ent called?

Huorns.

I think they were sleepy, "tree-ish" Ents (or were they Entish trees?).

Erm, I think that's right...
Not sure though

The first was the king of the Balrogs in The Silmarillion. He killed Ecthelion and was killed by him during the sack of Gondolin. The second was the Lieutenant of the Dark Tower (Minas Morgul) in Return of the King.

Which strain of Hobbit-ancestors were the most friendly with the Elves?

In the name of their ancient pride and humiliation, they had made commitments with no possible outcome except bereavement.

That was a lucky guess!
Ok, kind of easy but...

Who was the other Dwarf (apart from Gimli) that was present at the Council of Elrond?

Gloin, Gimli's father.

How is Legolas related to Celeborn?

That's got me thinking...

I mean, given her heritage Galadriel was always going to be marrying beneath her station, but Celeborn was at least born of the Noldor, wasn't he?

I wouldn't let my Noldoran daughter marry any common run-of-the-mill Elf. 8O :P

And neither Celeborn nor Legolar are run-of-the-mill Elves, although they aren't of the Noldor.
