I just played Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. What a magnificant game. I would call it the best platformer of all time, and the best action game of all time. Absolutely stunning.

1. Tunnels of Doom - the amount I have played this in my life, it must be my favorite. And every once in a while when I get depressed, I'll break it out and play a 10 level dungeon.
2. Ultima IV - Quest of the Avatar - What can I say? A strange introduction to Eastern Philosophy for me.
3. Final Fantasy VII - Reinvented the genre.
4. Pokemon - yeah yeah yeah
5. Dance Dance Revolution - lost 30 pounds playing it. One of the best ways to exercise IMHO.

I know there are tons more I could say, but I can't think right now. Those are definite standouts though.

Maybe anything from Blizzard, but I couldn't decide between them.

1) Drakengard
2) Final Fantasy X
3) Devil May Cry 3
4) Kingdom Hearts 1&2
5) drakengard 2 when it comes out

For those interested, here's my full top 10. It's pretty much set in stone, unless the Elder Scrolls IV rocks my world (which I'm sure it will, by God, or I'll destroy Bethesda).

I can't think of a 5. If pressed I'd probably have to say either GTA: San Andreas or Final Fantasy X (or maybe IX)... but I can't think of any other games that I've enjoyed and replayed quite so much. Deus Ex especially; I've lost count of the number of times I've played through it and every time I've found something new/done things differently.

There are five great games, not necessarily in any order (it's too hard to choose)

1.) Baldur's Gate -- only played Shadows of Amn and Throne of Baal (actually playing through them again right now) but the game is simply phenommenal. Most engaging and well-written/though-out story I've ever seen in a game.

2.) Deus Ex -- gripping and engaging story, great soundtrack, so much fun to play. Someday I will buy this game again and play it over and over and over...

3.) The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind -- I do not think I have ever played any game as much as I've played Morrowind (and I have played quite a few games). Top-notch story, environment/world, I love the open-ended aspect. Character system (ie skills, abilities, leveling up, etc.) is pure crap (basically, every character ends up exactly the same. You may start off as a thief, or a fighter or a mage or whatever, but you still end up in Daedra Armor, wielding Sunder, and infected with Polyphoric Hemophillia--a.k.a. Vampirism). This game was still incredible. I'm sure Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion will be even better (the demo movies on elderscrolls.com simply blew me away).

4.) Starcraft -- best RTS ever. There will never be any better. Why? Because all these new 3D games are pure garbage. Aside from creating nothing but confusion with "advanced" interfaces, the games also have inconsistent computer response to use input which equals bad game. I still play SC with some friends online from time to time. We are the unbeatable 3v3 team

5.) I don't know if I can pick a fifth. There's a lot of contenders. For now, I'll leave it blank.

You should check out Planescape: Torment, Prom_STar. It's built on the same engine that powered the Baldur's Gate games (Infinity Engine). It combines the best aspects of Fallout and BG 1/2.

Additionally, I've decided that it has the best storyline and characterizations of any game I've played. It's also (for better or worse) the most nerdy/intellectual game I've ever encountered; you can get by 90% of the game using dialogue options. That sounds mundane, but the conversations in Planescape are truly the highlights. Still, BG2 remains my #1 fave, simply because it is more accessible/outright fun.

No, it's in the Planescape universe, a D&D campaign that is no longer supported/defunct. It's a shame, cause I prefer it over the cardboard-cut-out fantasy that is Forgotten Realms. Don't get me wrong, BG2 is my favorite game and all, but it's set in a poor man's Middle-Earth.

I've always liked Forgotten Realms for two reasons:

Baldur's Gate
R.A. Salvatore fantasy (i.e. all the Drizzt Do'Urden books).

Unfortunately, a lot of other things to come out of the Forgotten Realms tend toward the banal and cliche. *sigh* But that's what we have writers like SRD for: to give us original, powerful, and meaningful fantasy.

Yeah, there is a lot of trash in the FR setting.
