Wasn't he backed up by Pearl Jam on one of his albums? Was that one called Mirror Ball?

Yes he was and it's a damm good album,
Mirror Ball
American Stars and Bars with Like A Hurricane
Broken Arrow with Slip Away
Weld
Sleeps with Angels with Change Your Mind
Re*ac*tor
and Live Rust are some of his more pure "clash metal", intense electric CDs. If you see his long time backup band, Crazy Horse, listed on any of his albums it's bound to be rocking, as opposed to some of his more mellow totally solo stuff...

Neil Young Unplugged should be on the list too...it's awesome, it's hard to list all his solo stuff as he has around 26 albums out including,

Everybody's Rocking (50s retro rock)
Arc
Are You Passonite?
Ragged Glory
13
the brand new Greendale (trailers, history and interactive map available on the Net)
Landing on Water
and Times Fades Away, one of my personal favs, and I'm sure there are a few I've missed.

Not to mention all his work with Buffalo Springfield
or
Deja Vu
4 Way Street
American Dreams
and Looking Forward with C, S, N & Y
and a very good CD with Stephen Stills: Long May You Run

Some of Neil's more famous back-up singers, especially on After the Gold Rush and Harvest Moon include; James Taylor, Linda Rondstad, Emmylou Harris, Nils Lofgren and the late Nicolete Larson.

There is also some very rare live "bootleg" stuff out on the Net where Bruce Springsteen sings backup on Down by the River and then Neil returns the favor on The Streets of Philadelphia.

I'd have to say Young's best album is After The Goldrush. Neil is close to his peak in it, and it's brilliant all the way through. My only gripe is that it's a bit stylistically narrow. I guess I can give him a little slack, though, as it's his first attempt at a concept album, and he does well balancing the hard rockers with the acoustic songs. The arrangements are simple, with none of the earlier studio trickery or multi-part mini-symphonies. And even when the lyrics are obscure, the melodies get right to the point.

I don't know what you mean about earlier trickery unless you're talking about his first self titled album-the second: Everybody Knows This is Nowhere has always been my all time fav-and it's a cut and dried rocker-no gimmicks. A Man Needs a Maid on Harvest always weirds me out with it's mini-orchestration but the rest of the album is priceless. I'm not going to argue with you on After the Goldrush though-Birds is one of the most heartwrenching songs ever recorded. And as I alluded to above great backup vocals as well with Taylor, Lofgren and Rondstad.

I don't know, aside from his second, third and fouth studio albums we just talked about if there has been another Young CD that ever rivaled them. It may just depend on your mood--I like to blast Like a Hurricane, Re*ac*tor and Mirror Ball when I feel real rowdy, If I feel introspective Tonight's the Night, On the Beach and Neil Young work. If I'm feeling countryish, Comes a Time, Ragged Glory and Harvest Moon work. If I feel punkish Sleeps With Angels works. For overall effort and production Rust Never Sleeps, Live Rust, Harvest Moon and Greendale have to be up there with After the Goldrush and Everybody Knows This is Nowhere. :D

Young Hospitalized After Surgery

Fri Apr 1,10:05 PM ET Entertainment - E! Online

By Charlie Amter

Neil Young may have a heart of gold, but his head hasn't been doing so good.

The legendary rocker was treated for a brain aneurysm Tuesday in New York, his publicist said Friday.

Although Young remains hospitalized at New York's Weill Cornell Medical Center, he is expected to make a full recovery. Doctors who performed surgeries on the "Heart of Gold" singer are optimistic he'll be back to normal soon.

"Mr. Young had a dangerous brain aneurysm and was treated successfully by the minimally invasive neuroradiology team here. He is now resting comfortably...but we strongly recommend that he not travel for several days," Dr. Pierre Gobin, one of the doctors who performed the delicate surgery, told the Associated Press Friday.

Although the most common symptom of a brain aneurysm is a severe headache, the 59-year-old first became aware of a potential problem when his vision became blurry during the March 14 induction ceremonies for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Young's publicist, Jim Merlis, told AP.

Although brain aneurysms can occur at any age, they are more common in adults.

Young is expected to remain hospitalized for at least the weekend for observation. Merlis told AP Friday that his client has "got to take it easy."

The iconic multi-instrumentalist had been scheduled to head to Winnipeg Sunday for Canada's Juno Awards.

While Young will not be able to perform, or even attend the ceremony, he still managed to squeeze in a few nice words about his former hometown (although Young was born in Toronto, he was raised in Winnipeg).

"I'm really disappointed that I won't be able to make it to Winnipeg for the Junos as I had hoped," Young said in a statement Friday.

"I grew up there and was really looking forward to the show as well as spending some time with my old friends and family."

Luckily for Young, he may have another chance to visit after heading off a potentially deadly condition.

"Thanks to my doctors, I'm feeling a lot better now so I hope I can get a rain check," he said Friday.

Not a huge fan, but he's got some great songs. I think I'm the only person on the planet that liked Landing On Water.

You're not the only one--tho many people thought that album was a blatant attempt by Young to get back at David Geffen for Geffen's unreasonable demands after the contract was signed.

Good luck to you, brother.

I knew a girl named Leah who would play Neil Young songs on the acoustic guitar and sing for me. my favorite was always..."Out On the Weekend"

Think I'll pack it in
and buy a pick-up
Take it down to L.A.
Find a place to call my own
and try to fix up.
Start a brand new day.

The woman I'm thinking of,
she loved me all up
But I'm so down today
She's so fine, she's in my mind.
I hear her callin'.

See the lonely boy,
out on the weekend
Trying to make it pay.
Can't relate to joy,
he tries to speak and
Can't begin to say.

She got pictures on the wall,
they make me look up
From her big brass bed.
Now I'm running down the road
trying to stay up
Somewhere in her head.

The woman I'm thinking of,
she loved me all up
But I'm so down today
She's so fine she's in my mind.
I hear her callin'.

See the lonely boy,
out on the weekend
Trying to make it pay.
Can't relate to joy,
he tries to speak and
Can't begin to say.

How would Neil be feeling in accordance with my mood, right now?.......... :? ..........Hummmmmmm?

ImageWhen you dance, do your senses tingle?
Then take a chance?
In a trance, while the lonely mingle with circumstance?

I've got something to tell you you make it show.
Baby come over, I know you know
When you dance I can really love.

I can love, I can really love, I can really love
Like a mountain that's growing a river that rolls
Baby come over, I know you know.

WHEN YOU DANCE (oooohhhh baby) I CAN REALLY LOVE

Once I thought I saw you
in a crowded hazy bar,
Dancing on the light
from star to star.
Far across the moonbeam
I know that's who you are,
I saw your brown eyes
turning once to fire.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

I am just a dreamer,
but you are just a dream,
You could have been
anyone to me.
Before that moment
you touched my lips
That perfect feeling
when time just slips
Away between us
on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away
To somewhere safer
where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

You are just a dreamer,
and I am just a dream.
You could have been
anyone to me.
Before that moment
you touched my lips
That perfect feeling
when time just slips
Away between us
on our foggy trip.

You are like a hurricane
There's calm in your eye.
And I'm gettin' blown away

where the feeling stays.
I want to love you but
I'm getting blown away.

:goodpost:

(loves that one, sarge!! and this one, too)

Old man lying by the side of the road
With the lorries rolling by,
Blue moon sinking from the weight of the load
And the building scrape the sky,
Cold wind ripping down the allay at dawn
And the morning paper flies,
Dead man lying by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes.

Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Find someone who's turning
And you will come around.

Blind man running through the light of the night
With an answer in his hand,
Come on down to the river of sight
And you can really understand,
Red lights flashing through the window in the rain,
Can you hear the sirens moan?
White cane lying in a gutter in the lane,
If you're walking home alone.

Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Just find someone who's turning
And you will come around.

Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Just find someone who's turning
And you will come around

Well :D If y'all are going to post lyrics let me copy and paste Thrasher from the Favorite Lyrics thread,

They were hiding behind hay bales,
They were planting in the full moon
They had given all they had for something new
But the light of day was on them,
They could see the thrashers coming
And the water shone like diamonds in the dew.

And I was just getting up, hit the road before it's light
Trying to catch an hour on the sun
When I saw those thrashers rolling by,
Looking more than two lanes wide
I was feelin' like my day had just begun.

Where the eagle glides ascending
There's an ancient river bending
Down the timeless gorge of changes
Where sleeplessness awaits
I searched out my companions,
Who were lost in crystal canyons
When the aimless blade of science
Slashed the pearly gates.

It was then I knew I'd had enough,
Burned my credit card for fuel
Headed out to where the pavement turns to sand
With a one-way ticket to the land of truth
And my suitcase in my hand
How I lost my friends I still don't understand.

They had the best selection,
They were poisoned with protection
There was nothing that they needed,
Nothing left to find
They were lost in rock formations
Or became park bench mutations
On the sidewalks and in the stations
They were waiting, waiting.

So I got bored and left them there,
They were just deadweight to me
Better down the road without that load
Brings back the time when I was eight or nine
I was watchin' my mama's T.V.,
It was that great Grand Canyon rescue episode.

Where the vulture glides descending
On an asphalt highway bending
Thru libraries and museums, galaxies and stars
Down the windy halls of friendship
To the rose clipped by the bullwhip
The motel of lost companions
Waits with heated pool and bar.

But me I'm not stopping there,
Got my own row left to hoe
Just another line in the field of time
When the thrashers comes, I'll be stuck in the sun
Like the dinosaurs in shrines
But I'll know the time has come
To give what's mine.

Let's get obscure....
I used to carry
the weight of the world
On my back
I never trusted
my friends or my girl
Can you imagine that
I used to shuffle my feet
When I walked
I hung my head down low
Kept to myself
all my private thoughts
But when I met you girl.

I dropped the
weight of the world
Weight of the world
I dropped the
weight of the world
Weight of the world.

I knew some people
used to dance all night
But not me
I never knew
if it was wrong or right
To be so free
I used to close my eyes
And try to hide
from the light of love
Spent all my time
with the darkness inside
But when I met you girl.

I dropped
the weight of the world
Weight of the world
I dropped
the weight of the world
Weight of the world.

I was alone
for all of my life
I was alone
for all of my life
I was alone
for all of my life
I was alone
for all of my life
Until you came my way
I dropped
the weight of the world
Weight of the world
I dropped
the weight of the world
Weight of the world.
