Hopeful riders

Post by Plains of Ra »

Any who desire to be chosen by a Ranyhyn may feel free to present themselves for consideration here. Who can say who will be lucky enough to be chosen?

(Of course, I would never divulge such information, but, as their home and place of origin, I know something of how they make these decisions. Besides, they each have their unique perspectives, so nothing could ever be guaranteed.)

These old bones need no Ranyhyn to bear them. Tamarantha has won honour enough for us both.

Besides, urgent duty calls. High Lord Prothall has summoned me to the Close, where I must fall asleep during the Council and dribble gently on my chest. Mhoram will wake me if I miss anything. This day's meeting should be a good one. A stranger has shown up at Lord's Keep. Apparently he's got a right old wedding ring and is completely unbelievable. But I may be mistaken; my hearing is not . . . what it . . . once . . . .

Run, Ranyhyn:

gallop, play --
feed, and drink, and coat-gloss gleam.
You are the marrow of the earth.
No rein will curb, or bit control
no claw or fang unpunished rend;
no horse-blood drop without the healing grass.
We are the Ramen, born to serve:
Manethrall curry,
Cord protect,
Winhome hearth and bed anneal --
our feet do not bear our hearts away.
Grass-grown hooves, and forehead stars;
hocks and withers earth-wood bloom:
regal Ranyhyn, gallop, run --
we serve the Tail of the Sky,
Mane of the World.
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~fly fly little wing, fly where only angels sing~

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

FizbansTalking_Hat, you are truly honored to have been chosen by a most wonderous horse - Ucchaishrava. He should be joining you in no more than ten days. :D

Dragonlily, you honor the Ranyhyn, indeed. It is an honor for all Ranyhyn who die when their bodies become a part of the larger me, and continue the endless circle of life. But it is a special honor for those whose bones have been used for such acts of beauty as you create. Were it not for the extreme geological upheaval it would cause, I would bow to you.

Lightbringer, you have already been chosen anyway! :D

Variol Farseer, I would... (Ah, forgive me, my friend. *shhhhhhh* Sleep well.)

Furls Fire, it is no mystery that you have already been chosen. The mystery would be if only one Ranyhyn offered herself to you.

And cheval, I see that you also have already been chosen by a brave Ranyhyn, so... That is quite okay, though. Any may decline to ride, even if chosen. It is not the Ranyhyn who believe it is wrong for them to be ridden.

My thanks, danlo, for your concern. But it is not necessary. This Lord Foul is much diminished, and virtually no danger. We have taken to calling him Babytooththane the Pouter.

My Lady Dragonlily, I am happy you are enjoying your visit. I am always pleased to have you tread upon me.

michaelcov, things are looking good! Many of the Ranyhyn were wary, because you are almost unknown to them. But a brave, trusting stallion named Bucephalus sees much good in you, and is on his way. :D

And congratulations FizbansTalking_Hat!! Ucchaishrava is a rare and beautiful Ranyhyn! Um, Cheers.

Interesting to see so many of our Ranyhyns' names. Muirne, Ucchaishrava, Bucephalus. Have any others been mentioned anywhere?

My Ranyhyn's name, if you can believe it, is Yggdrasil! 8O Some may not understand the significance, so let me explain. Ygg means The Terrible One, that is, Odin. Me. (I wasn't that terrible. Really! Bad p.r.) And drasil means mount or horse. The world tree was so named because, when I was Odin on the other Earth, I "rode" the tree for nine days and nights, having pierced my side with my sacred spear, Gungnir, and hung myself. That's when I learned, among other things, the runes. So the world tree is Odin's Horse. When I arrived in the Land, before I even knew what a Ranyhyn was, a magnificent horse approached me, told me his name was Yggdrasil, and here we are!
