Most Annoying Moments in Star Trek History

Okay guys this is not a "Bash Star Trek V" thread (although most of the worst moments in Star Trek occur in that horrible movie).
I have a few favorites but the one that keeps coming to mind is the damn rocket boots....wait I mean in the TOS episode The Alternative Factor, the Matter and Antimatter Lazarus' seemingly do nothing but fall from great heights and knock themselves out. ARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There I'm glad I didn't sink so low that I'd mention anything from Star Trek V like the blasted Rocket boots.

Though I strongly disagree with you EE, I understand your point of view. I have known others that have no love for DS9. Something about the show didn't appeal to them in some way. Perhaps it was too dark for their tastes. Star Trek is an exercise in the exploration of a bright and positive future. DS9 did not stray much from that philosophy but it did seem to embrace conflict more than any other Trek incarnation.

Yes Spock's Brain is pretty stupid. (That’s an ironic statement) What I really hate about that episode in particular is the precision with which Kirk is able to command Spock's brainless body to the point that he can get Spock’s fingers to move precisely one inch to press a button on the priestess' wrist band using a control device with only three large buttons on it. Then another insult. McCoy who is forgetting how to replace Spock’s brain in the middle of the operation, re attaches Spock’s speech center so that Spock can help McCoy finish the procedure. Good grief!

My wife thinks that is pretty funny. When she's playing stupid she exclaims that line with comedic precision.

Don't get me wrong. I think the underlying concept behind the episode is kind of interesting. Using an actual brain instead of a computer to run the mechanics of a society is at least remarkable. Why a race would be capable of creating clearly advanced technology but would have to rely on a humanoid brain to run it all is beyond me.

The worst moment is when Scotty bumps his head on the bulkhead in ST:V - oh wait, I wasn't supposed to mention that.

The worst moment is when Riker is in command of the Enterprise in Insurrection and he pilots the ship with an old Atari joystick that rises up out of the floor. I almost left the theater when I saw that.

dlbpharmd, I was just going to say Insurrection annoyed me, but that I couldn't remember in detail any one moment because I saw the film only once (which was plenty enough).

The Atari joystick...EGAD. Gee, thanks for jogging the memory. Or maybe not.

I never fully embraced the Captain Proton diversion. True it was all pretty cute and fun but holodeck characters have always bugged me all the way back to the Big Goodbye / Dixon Hill stuff. The worst was DS9's lounge singer / counselor. Not my kind of thing. If there is star ship exploding then I'm all over it. If not zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Janeway: "Let's get closer to it!"

Kim: "Captain - it's shooting out somethingtons at us! Structural integrity is failing!"

Chakotay: "Get us out of here!"

Paris: "We've lost helm control!"

Torres: "Captain, if we shower the anomaly with anti-somethingtons we may be able to break free! But we'll have to connect the pseudo-rectal conduit to the deflector dish, and divert power from Neelix's cooking stove!"

Janeway: "Do it!"

Here's a typical battle:

Tuvok: "Captain, we're being approached by an unknown spacecraft. Their shields are raised and weapons are locked on us."

Chakotay: "Should we raise shields?"

Janeway: "No - we want to appear friendly."

(Bulkhead explodes behind her, 2 crewmen blown across the bridge)

Tuvok: "Hull breach on deck 9!"

Janeway: "Return fire!"

Tuvok: "Phasers are off-line."

Janeway: "Get us out of here!"

Paris: "I've lost helm control!"

The holdeck was a lame means by which to create non-space, non-sci-fi stories.

As for the fake Voyager script as supplied by dlbpharmd,all I have to say is that is a good damn thing I am wearing rubber pants. HAW!

As far as sannoying moments go, nothing but NOTHING beats "Row, row, row your boat"... I still break out in hate-sweats over that.

Exactly! To me the best use of the holodeck was the Barclay stories on TNG, like the one where Barclay has an addiction to the holodeck and was [ahem] "carrying on" (wink wink) with Troy, Crusher et al. That was classic!
