10 trivia points for you if you can recall whose song I have just quoted.
Baby, even the losers get lucky sometimes
Even the losers keep a little bit of pride
They get lucky sometimes
That'd be Tom Petty's "Even the Losers"

I know all...even who the Mahdbout it! ;)

Ten Points for you! Good job! Petty is one of my faves!

I started my re-read of TWL the other day and came across the song Sunder sang regarding A-jeroth and it mentions the 'Master's mate' Diassomer Mininderain (the Master being the Creator) - could this be the Mahdoubt? The song says something about how she fell prey to the Despiser's charms and betrayed the Creator and realised afterwards what she had done.

I won't completely rule out your theory, but "Diassomer Mininderain" is symbolic of The Land itself, and her unfaithfulness to the Creator. (This is similar to the Old Testament book Hosea.)

I wouldn't rule anything out. Experience shows us that nothing is random/meaningless with him!

There's only one way to capture the mystery of the Mahdoubt -- a song!

Here is my Mahdoubt song. (You all know Rod Stewart's Maggie May, right?) Enjoy.
  • Hey there Mahdoubt I really don’t know what to make of you.
The Haruchai shrug and say you’re just here to bring me food.
Your clothes are kind of a flub, and your arms are rather chub.
Oh Mahdoubt, are you from Lunch Lady Land?
I met you in Revelstone, you’re such a mysterious crone.
You’re quite a puzzle and that’s what really irks.

The Land’s health-sight when its on your face really shows you’re tweaked.
But that don’t worry me none - it’s Mahrtiir whose really freaked.
I laughed at your crows nest hair, and ate all your meager fair.
Oh, Mahdoubt, what is your numinousness for?
I was saved from the Illearth Stone, just to get stuck in Revelstone.
You boggle my mind, and that’s a tease I could do without.

All I needed was a maid to make the room I had.
But you warned me of love, and mother it’s my love I need so bad.
How’d you know my guy was here? Let’s face it, that’s a little queer.
Oh Mahdoubt, your eyes are more of an eye sore.
I wound up in Revelstone, cause Stave had to be a bone.
You mystify me, I couldn’t get you if I tried.

I suppose I could write you off as the cleaning crew.
Or imagine the Creator has some sort of plan for you.
Or maybe you’re an Elohim gal, in need of a mortal pal.
Oh Mahdoubt, explain what happened to your face!
You like to say “Assuredly”, and you know when I get thirsty.
You stole the show, but who are you anyway?

I saw in a new Donaldson interview the other day that the Mahdout, like Mahrtiir, was an after thought that he put into Runes.

I remembered this huge speculative thread, and was highly amused. ;)

Actually, I exagerate. They were not after thoughts, but "late discoveries" by Donaldson. :)

In THE RUNES OF THE EARTH, Manethrall Mahrtiir was a late discovery--as was the Mahdoubt.

Greetings,

In view of the earlier idea about the Mahdoubt being Kastenessen's lover, I've been wondering if this may not be correct.

Consider...

Esmer is the child of the Merewives and Cail - a demi-god.

I've been wondering if the Mahdoubt is the child of Kastenessen and his lover?!

This would explain the similarity in Esmer's and her personalities - light and dark, in Esmer's case, whilst her's (along with her appearance) seems to indicate the indecision her name implies.

Against this is a extract from "Fatal Revenant" where TC mentions to her that "you're always interfering" - or something along that line.

Although, if I recall it correctly, I inferred that she was not the only one of her kind - as if there is/she is a member of another group, similar to the Elohim, who've yet to reveal their true intentions.

Kindest regards,

Asuraka

Asuraka,

I don't think so.
Spoiler
We get the name of her people, the Insequent. And the merewives are, i thought, the children of Kastenessen and his lover. I do wonder, however, about the name....Insequent. To me, sounds like a hint at being out of sequence. Also, if i recall correctly, in Revenant, the Elohim say something disparaging about them as being mortals. Taking the out of sequence, with them being mortal, here's my idea....they are a vastly lore-wise people (not Law-type lore) from the future, who go back in time to ensure that history unfolds correctly (e.g., the Theomach working with Berek)

Apologies

Post by Seven Words »

I've never done anything on any forum before, sorry about that.

I have rectified my mistake.

And now, feeling kind of Haruchai, I must go and try to do something impossibly superhuman to atone for my all too human lapse.

Oh, no, it's too late for that. I've you failed, then, in proper Haruchai fashion, there's nothing you can do now.

Greetings,

In my defence, I can only say that I haven't even bought Fatal Revenant yet, let alone read it! :D

[mod edit - please keep FR spoilers out of this forum - dlbpharmd]
Spoiler
At least I did get the idea that she was a member of a people (group) correct.

I was so wrong about the Mahdout. I thought she was something else. Now I just have my doubts about the Mahdout.
Spoiler
I've read FR, so I know . But I ain't spoiling it for the rest.
What's this silver looking ring doing on my finger?
