I finally annoyed my school librarian into ordering the Gap series.

Yeah, even I'd be uncomfortable with my kid reading them before he was at least 14. Heh, then again, I don't think most adults would be comfortable reading the books. It was a mindfrell for me, and I was about 20 or so when I read them.

*humph* If that librarian allows Little Susie Has Two Moms, then I don't see any problem with the Gap series.

Dunno. Never read it. I'll have to ask one of the school perverts. "OMG! 8O " is the proper way to describe it. hehe.

I expect all the swearing would make it pretty popular with twelve year olds, although they'd probably be scarred for life once they got to Billingate.

If you want to scar a kid for life, let 'em watch
Spoiler

My neighbor lady has it, and she's trying to get other kids to come over there and watch it. She :bounce03: a lot.

TF, do your parents or other such adult figures in your life know of this? It is imperative that they do.

mmm .. that is truly disconcerting :? :-| :?

mmm .. 'lady' .. or no .. she needs to keep her 'porn' to herself .. most definitely not proselyte porn to kids. Sounds sick and twisted and very strange

the very fact that you are aware of it .. suggests you ought to tell someone.

How old are you Turiya? The Gap is pretty sick and twisted in parts too .. you sure you want to read it?

I wouldnt want any kid [nor mine] exposed to the Gap till they were a lot older .. its no bedtime story .. nor is it a cool teen read .. in parts its just plain nasty  :-x 8O

Ok. Little clarification here. I did not write that last post. I started this topic. Figures that this would happen. Here's the deal. More than likely, it was one of my cousins that posted that. *grumbles cousin Tracy* He's a real "foul mouth". *sighs* I geuss that's just what I get for leaving my book of names and passwords out of the vault.

Sky- Tracy, the one who posted this is 14 and very annoying. I'm 12, and if I could take on TCTC at 10, the Gap ought to be easy. :)

He will be given a good thrashing, from me at least. He has no right to break into my computer stuff. And plus, I can pull the "I'm bigger that you card" since I am taller and broader in shoulder that him. hehe. Off to check my other message boards to see if he messed them up too.

12!!!?? 8O .. easy??!!! mmm .. its not the level of reading .. I am sooo sure you could handle the language .. maybe even the profanity ..

I would most definately not recommend the Gap to a 12 yr old .. no offence .. you're a great and very mature kid .. but the Gap is a lot more 'nasty' than TCTC .. umm .. a lot more :? 8O

there's heaps of good .. no great reads out there

Jordan .. Brooks .. Feist even ..

heh, i don't know; jordan's gotten pretty racy in the last couple of books (obviously referring to sexual content, not the pace of the plot)... then again, racy for jordan is calling lesbians "pillow friends" and vaguely alluding to trysts.

but i used to read Piers Anthony when I was about that age, and that guy can be a perv (I refused to keep reading Xanth novels when I could not check out The Color of Her Panties without embarrasment).

the only problem i'd have with somebody so young reading the gap is the sexual abuse, but you could take a machiavellian approach to it and say it's better to know and fear... then again, the approach is rather fantastical (i'd say science fictional, but that just doesn't sound right), so it could lend to not taking the subject quite as seriously as one should.

it's a very real problem, and should be thoroughly discussed with one's parent/s before addressing it in ficiton.

Hey TF--READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! I don't have kids so am not coming from the parental angle. And I know kids r in2 the weirdest and crazyiest things, including internet porn. Just b careful, emotionally, spiritually (whatever spiritual quest u'r on...) and psychologically! I'M serious heck the Lady Tamara is pretty thickskined but I thought The Real Story was going 2 burst in2 flames in her hands when she 1st read it!
Mayb u think u're made of tuffer stuff but really, BE CAREFUL.

I'm sure I was a totally naive, antisocial, dope when I was 12 but I'll tell u 1 thing: If I read The Gap Saga when I was 12 I think I would b a herion-shooting suicidal psychologically f-ked up Satanist w/mass murdering tendancies b4 I was 30. But that's just me, instead I just read Covenant when I was 17 created my own personal Lord Foul, hated the world, became a paraniod-antisocial came very close 2 ending up on the streets 4 17 years and had a strong desire 2 chop off 2 of my fingers until I was 30. I never said I wasn't sensitive! 8O

I'm not too sure, so maybe some clarity here for me - are books rated according to age?

mmm ....

well not officially .. but reading material would have appropriateness levels
or suitability levels if you will

maybe you wouldnt read an adult book with adult themes to a toddler ..
