Just want to pay my respects to Johnny Carson, who died this morning from emphysema, at the age of 79. I have fond memories of the Tonight Show, which I watched often as a kid in the 80's. The only other "comedy hour" at the time that I tuned into as regularly as Tonight was probably Saturday Night Live. Carson was a good TV role model. I liked his smooth, effortless style. He was a classy guy in my eyes, and I admired him for being able to keep his private life private. It was mentioned on CNN that over the 30-year span of his reign on the Tonight Show, Carson had around 22,000 guests...which, if you lined them all up, would make the famous Tonight Show couch 8 miles long.
Yes, Johnny Carson will always be the King of Late Night. Rest in peace, Great Carsoni.

Bette Midler sang this to him on his last show...
"...Well that's how it goes
and *John*,
I know your gettin' pretty anxious to close
So, thanks for the cheer,
I hope you didn't mind my bendin' your ear
So, make it one for my baby
and one more for the road
That long, long road..."
Rest easy, Johnny. Say hi to all the late "couchers" for us. You will be missed.

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~
...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

Ahh, the world hasn't been the same since he retired. RIP, friend.
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion
I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.

I was 24 when he retired....Certainly not in his target demographic, but I loved his show. I always made it a point to watch his monologue. The man just oozed class and style.
