That would have been awesome. . . it's much better than naming your child Pilot or Apple!

..Got this for my Birthday last week.

Fianlly after fifteen years I got to reread it.

And OMG it's way more beterer when your a grownup!

I've never read a book so fast..even though it's an easy read, I still could not stop reading it.

I even teared up near the end..when Scout realized that it was Boo who saved her and Jem...I mean it too..I was all choked up and couldn't talk...I've NEVER had that experience to ANY book before.

At some point, I have got to get around to reading this book! The recent passing of author Harper Lee has reminded me of this once again.

Yes- it's wonderful!

I remember that for the first 40 pages I found it rough going - because I didn't realize that the narrative voice was that of an intelligent 6-year-old girl who is weirdly knowledgeable about various things, but is definitely narrating in the vernacular...

Once I figured out what was going on with that, I couldn't put it down. I need a re-read.
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor

"In spite of much that militates against quietness there are people who still read books. They are the people who keep me going."

I need a re-read too - been at least 12-15 years. And I haven't seen the movie.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Once, a student of mine said something along the lines of, "I see it as a life lesson," and speaking like "you learn this once, and then you're done.."
I was so flabbergasted I didn't know what to say.

The characterizations (of place, or people) are so earthy & human, the sacrifices so challenging.
