Watch Family Retreat Weekend 2005 -- New York State

Post by duchess of malfi »

Fisty and I are trying to work out a weekend to get together in early August this summer. :)

We will not have Donaldson, or the beautiful Andelain, but thought perhaps some other Watchers might still want to join us?

We do not have any dates yet, as I am still waiting to find out whether or not I will be getting my requested time off of work. I should know that sometime in March, so we can get a firm weekend down then, if I am granted the time off. :)

Our children run the gamut from Fisty's youngest, whom I believe is preschool age, up to my older son, who will be 16, a senior in high school. :)

At this point, we are not planning any sightseeing trips or the like, though New York City is about an hour south by commuter train. In fact, we don't really have any plans other than hanging out together and helping watch each other's kids splash around in the hotel swimming pool. The whole object of the weekend is complete relaxation, and a chance to talk about books and music and movies, and other important things. 8) So if you want exciting nightlife or intense sightseeing, you probably wouldn't like it. On the other hand, if your idea of a fun and relaxing day is to sit next to the pool (or soak in the hot tub) while the kids swim, talk about books, and eat pie, you might be very happy.

If it looks like anyone else might be interested in joining us, we will make an update when we have a firm date (or let everyone know it won't be happening if I can't get the time off :( ) and I can post a link to the hotel in Middletown. :)

I should add, if you do not have children, you would still be fully welcome -- as long as you do not mind being around children, as there will be at least five kids there! :)
Love as thou wilt.

Oh Fun!! And if it's kids you want...well we have 11, 5 under the age of 5 and 3 under the age of two. :D :D We will probably have to block a whole floor of rooms at the hotel. LOL!!

Gonna talk to Russell about it. I'm sure he would love to meet you all too! And since he's a big boss at work, he shouldn't have any trouble getting time off. Just let me know the dates and we'll see what we can do!!

Of course, if Naeem is in crisis we probably won't make it. He's doing well right now, Liz redid his meds and his CD-4 count is up over 100 again. Imani has been started on hers and we are hoping to eradicte the virus from her system. Praying hard for that.

OH..ya know, it may be twelve kids by the time August rolls around, because there's another little boy in SA that we want to bring home too. You all sure we want us there??? hehehehehe
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

Furls, you and yours would always be welcome!!

My request was for the first two weeks of August, so if it is granted, the Retreat would be one of the first two weekends in August, depending on Fisty's schedule. 8) I should know (I hope) by the end of March. 8)

dlb, it would be great if you can make it, with or without the family. :) Be forewarned, though -- if we do end up with 17 or more kids, you might be "volunteered" as a child wrangler. ;)

Oh, Duchess- I hope so! My daughter is two, so I will help to child wrangle if I can make it! It depends on my schedule at work and school. It sounds WONDERFUL!!!!!!!

This is looking good!! :D

On my end of it, I will almost certainly not be able to take my vacation any time in June, July, or August. I'm at the bottom of the seniority list, so by the time the vacation calendar gets to me, those months are filled up. However, I have weekends off, and taking 2 or 3 days off shouldn't be too difficult. When duchess finds out when she'll be able to get here, I'll talk to my boss, who is really cool about trying to work with us in these ways.

Kym, my youngest turned 2 on Jan 23rd. :D

Kym, it would be wonderful if you and your daughter could come. And if Furlsy and her Russ come, I'm sure that she wouldn't mind a bit of help in herding the kids.

I'm not totally ruling it out. I would certainly love to, but won't have any idea for months yet.

If so, don't count on me to child wrangle. Either you have a "green thumb" with kids or you don't, and I don't. :?

LOL Joy!! Wouldn't that be a kick?? Meeting each other in New York when we only live maybe 2 hours from each other??

My older kids help with the younger ones, so wrangling probably won't be necessary. It may sound daunting...11 kids...but it really isn't. Everyone helps out, Chelsea especially, she's a master diaper changer! :)

We missed each other last June, Dennis, as some of us travelled through Texas on our way to Elohimfest... :(

But I will keep you in mind if I ever get back to that state. 8)

I'm interested in principle, though if my job search bears fruit between now and August I may not be able to take a Friday off. My husband Matt, also a Donaldson fan though not a KW participant, may wish to join me. Our only dependent is a cat, who will stay home with her kitty-sitter.

Durris, since we don't have any schedules to keep for this gathering, I'll drag whoever is around out to the Danbury Mall to meet you for pizza if we can't meet you any other way. :D

I'm willing to be dragged in order to meet Durris and her hub if they can't meet us in Middletown for some reason. :D I am hoping to spend an extra 2-3 nights in the hotel/area anyway so my kids can see a bit of NYC (its about an hour away via commuter train and the hotels are a lot cheaper/nicer up where Fisty lives). :) So there would be plenty of time to be dragged.

If anyone else would be interested in staying a couple of extra days to see NYC, you'd be welcome to hang out with us. :) The kids would like to see a baseball game if possible, and we might go to one of the museums, and a play if we can find same day half off tickets to something that is family friendly. :)

I'm trying to squeeze it in between the last day of Summer School, Bubonicon and the first day of school. Tam and I are planning to visit my parents who live in Hastings, just above the George Washington Bridge and NYC, sometime this summer. 8)
