Ben Harper, 'Walk Away'(not sure 'bout the title...)

Oh no, here comes that sun again
It means another day, without you my friend
And i can't bare
to look in
to the mirror at myself
And it hurts even more
to have to be with somebody else
-chorus-vvv
And it's so hard to do
And so easy to say
But sometimes, sometimes you just
have to walk away
-chorus-^^^
So many people to love in my life
Why do
i worry
about one?
But you put the happy
In my -ness
You put the good times
Into my fun

{chorus}

So many days we walked in the same direction
So that we could never stray
They say if you love somebody
then you have got to set them free
But i would rather be locked to you
Then living this pain and misery

They say
that time will
make all this go away
But it's time that has taken my tomorrows
And turned them into yesterdays
And once again that rising sun is droppin' on down
Once again you my friend
are nowhere to be found
And it's...

{chorus}

That's from memory, guys, so forgive me if i made a few errors... :D
Stone and Sea are deep in life,
two unalterable symbols of the world;
permanence at rest, and permanence in motion;
participants in the Power that remains.

I Talk to the Wind by King Crimson, Greg Lake on flute and vocals-

Said the straight man to the late man
Where have you been
I've been here and I've been there
And I've been in between.

I talk to the wind
My words are all carried away
I talk to the wind
The wind does not hear
The wind cannot hear.

I'm on the outside looking inside
What do I see
Much confusion
disillusion
All around me.

You don't possess me
Don't impress me
Just upset my mind
Can't instruct me or conduct me
Just use up my time

I talk to the wind
My words are all carried away
I talk to the wind
The wind does not hear
The wind cannot hear.

Standing on Higher Ground by the Alan Parsons Project-

I know the truth
But I can't say
And I have to turn my head
And look the other way

I'm not afraid
And I won't lie
As long as I see no wrong
I won't need to testify

I see the world
And I'm looking from a high place
Way above it all
Standing on higher ground

I breathe the air
While they're running in a rat race
Way above it all
Standing on higher ground

I feel the blow
But I don't speak
And I have to close my eyes
Pretending I'm asleep

Well I see the tears
But I don't cry
As long as I do no wrong
I don't need an alibi

I see the world
And I'm looking from a high place
Way above it all
Standing on higher ground

I breathe the air
While they're running in a rat race
Way above it all
Standing on higher ground

Shine on You Crazy Diamond (1-5)
by Pink Floyd

Music:
1:Wright, Waters, Gilmour
2:Gilmour, Waters, Wright
3:Waters, Gilmour, Wright
4:Gilmour, Wright, Waters
5:Waters

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun
Shine on you crazy diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky
Shine on you crazy diamond
You were caught in the cross fire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon
Shine on you crazy diamond
Threatened by shadows at night and exposed in the light
Shine on you crazy diamond
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Echoes
by Pink Floyd

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air
And deep beneath the rolling waves
In labyrinths of coral caves
The echo of a distant time
Comes willowing across the sand
And everything is green and submarine

And no-one showed us to the land
And no-one knows the where or whys
But something stirs and something tries
And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can

And no-one calls us to move on
And no-one forces down our eyes
And no-one speaks and no-one tries
And no-one flies around the sun

Cloudless everyday you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning

And no-one sings me lullabies
And no-one makes me close my eyes
And so I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

Music: Mason/Gilmour/Waters/Wright

and

Kashmir
by Led Zeppelin

(Bonham/Jones/Page/Plant)

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear
Oh, oh.

Oh, I been flying... mama, there ain't no denyin'
I've been flying, ain't no denyin', no denyin'

All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir.

Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
Ohh.

When I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah

Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down...
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I'm down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there

Let me take you there. Let me take you there

The song is played a lot these days, and was in the Daredevil movie. But I never knew the lyrics until I got the album today. I don't listen to songs with great lyrics unless I like it musically. And I don't care if the lyrics are crappy if I like it musically. When I get both great lyrics and something I love musically, HEAVEN!!!

So here's Evanescence's Bring Me To Life

How can you see into my eyes like open doors
Leading you down into my core
Where I've become so numb without a soul
My spirit sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home

Wake me up inside
Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become

Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

Wake me up inside
Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become
Bring me to life

Frozen inside without your touch without your love
Darling only you are the life among the dead

All this time I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Without thought without voice without soul
Don't let me die here there must be something more
Bring me to life

Wake me up inside
Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become
Bring me to life
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

Somebody once told me,
The world was gonna roll me.
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.
Well she was lookin' kinda dumb,
With her finger and her thumb,
In the shape of an L
On her forehead.
The radio has played that one to death!

Ween, "Buenos Tardes"

Buenas Tardes Amigo
Hola, my good friend
Cinco de Mayo's on Tuesday
And I hoped we'd see each other again
You killed my brother last winter
You shot him three times in the back
In the night I still hear mama weeping
Oh mama, still dresses in black
I looked at every fiesta
For you I wanted to greet
Maybe I'd sell you a chicken
With poison interlaced with the meat
You...you look like my brother
Mama loved him the best
He was head honcho with the ladies
Mama always said he was blessed
The village all gathered around him
They couldn't believe what they saw
I said it was you that had killed him
And that I'd find you and upstand the law
The people of the village believed me
Mama...she wanted revenge
I told her that I'd see that she was honored
I'd find you and put you to death

So now...now that I've found you
On this such a joyous day
I tell you it was me who killed him
But the truth I'll never have to say
Buenas tardes amigo
Hola, my good friend
Cinco de Mayo's on Tuesday
And I hoped we'd see each other again
Yes, I hoped we'd see each other again
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Glad to see someone else likes Harry Chapin and Jim Croce songs.

Here is an old song by a female artist(sorry for the all caps, that was how the lyrics are posted on her website :) ):

AT SEVENTEEN

I LEARNED THE TRUTH AT SEVENTEEN
THAT LOVE WAS MEANT FOR BEAUTY QUEENS
AND HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS WITH CLEAR SKINNED SMILES
WHO MARRIED YOUNG AND THEN RETIRED
THE VALENTINES I NEVER KNEW
THE FRIDAY NIGHT CHARADES OF YOUTH
WERE SPENT ON ONE MORE BEAUTIFUL
AT SEVENTEEN I LEARNED THE TRUTH

AND THOSE OF US WITH RAVAGED FACES
LACKING IN THE SOCIAL GRACES
DESPERATELY REMAINED AT HOME
INVENTING LOVERS ON THE PHONE
WHO CALLED TO SAY - COME DANCE WITH ME
AND MURMURED VAGUE OBSCENITIES
IT ISN'T ALL IT SEEMS AT SEVENTEEN

A BROWN EYED GIRL IN HAND ME DOWNS
WHOSE NAME I NEVER COULD PRONOUNCE
SAID - PITY PLEASE THE ONES WHO SERVE
THEY ONLY GET WHAT THEY DESERVE
THE RICH RELATIONED HOMETOWN QUEEN
MARRIES INTO WHAT SHE NEEDS
WITH A GUARANTEE OF COMPANY
AND HAVEN FOR THE ELDERLY

SO REMEMBER THOSE WHO WIN THE GAME
LOSE THE LOVE THEY SOUGHT TO GAIN
IN DEBENTURES OF QUALITY AND DUBIOUS INTEGRITY
THEIR SMALL-TOWN EYES WILL GAPE AT YOU
IN DULL SURPRISE WHEN PAYMENT DUE
EXCEEDS ACCOUNTS RECEIVED AT SEVENTEEN

TO THOSE OF US WHO KNEW THE PAIN
OF VALENTINES THAT NEVER CAME
AND THOSE WHOSE NAMES WERE NEVER CALLED
WHEN CHOOSING SIDES FOR BASKETBALL
IT WAS LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY
THE WORLD WAS YOUNGER THAN TODAY
WHEN DREAMS WERE ALL THEY GAVE FOR FREE
TO UGLY DUCKLING GIRLS LIKE ME

WE ALL PLAY THE GAME, AND WHEN WE DARE
WE CHEAT OURSELVES AT SOLITAIRE
INVENTING LOVERS ON THE PHONE
REPENTING OTHER LIVES UNKNOWN
THAT CALL AND SAY - COME ON, DANCE WITH ME
AND MURMUR VAGUE OBSCENITIES
AT UGLY GIRLS LIKE ME, AT SEVENTEEN

~MsMary~

"I play with the Ween!" - Pat, from the movie It's Pat

DON'T GET 2 CLOSE (2 MY FANTASY)
Ween

Don't quiver little boy, your daddy's with you now
It won't be long anyhow
It's just around the corner
The destiny that I embrace with you

Don't get too close to my fantasy
Don't be afraid to clutch the hand of your creator
Stare into the lion's eyes and if you taste the candy
You'll get to the surprise

Stay calm little dreamer and drift off into dreams
The gentle kiss of night is better than it seems
It's just around the corner
Close your eyes and soon you'll be with me

Don't get too close to my fantasy
Don't be afraid to clutch the hand of your creator
Stare into the lion's eyes and if you taste the candy
You'll get to the surprise

One of my favorite songs, MMM! Janis Ian is very talented. :)
"Do you have a wife?"
"At one time."
"What happened to her?"
"She has been dead."
"How long ago did she die?"
"Two thousand years."

This is very strange. That song was lamenated on a piece of paper in my older brother's room and I always assumed it was a poem from a girlfriend or something. Never bothered to ask because I didn't want him to know that I went through his stuff when I was little  What a small world it can be sometimes.

Janis Ian wrote that song many, many years ago...when I was in either college or high school, I don't remember exactly. And that was a really long time ago.

:LOLS:

Here is another oldie but goodie of hers. (If I remember correctly, she said she wrote this song when she was 14 or something like that - pretty young, anyway.)

Society's Child
(Janis Ian)

COME TO MY DOOR, BABY
FACE IS CLEAN AND SHINING BLACK AS NIGHT
MY MAMA WENT TO ANSWER
YOU KNOW THAT YOU LOOKED SO FINE
NOW I COULD UNDERSTAND THE TEARS & THE SHAME
SHE CALLED YOU BOY INSTEAD OF YOUR NAME
WHEN SHE WOULDN'T LET YOU INSIDE
WHEN SHE TURNED AND SAID
"BUT HONEY, HE'S NOT OUR KIND"

SHE SAYS I CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE, BABY
CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE

WALK ME DOWN TO SCHOOL, BABY
EVERYBODY'S ACTING DEAF AND BLIND
UNTIL THEY TURN AND SAY
"WHY DON'T YOU STICK TO YOUR OWN KIND"
MY TEACHERS ALL LAUGH, THEIR SMIRKING STARES
CUTTING DEEP DOWN IN OUR AFFAIRS
PREACHERS OF EQUALITY
THINK THEY BELIEVE IT
THEN WHY WON'T THEY JUST LET US BE?

THEY SAY I CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE, BABY
CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE

ONE OF THESE DAYS I'M GONNA STOP MY LISTENING
GONNA RAISE MY HEAD UP HIGH
ONE OF THESE DAYS I'M GONNA RAISE UP
MY GLISTENING WINGS AND FLY
BUT THAT DAY WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR A WHILE
BABY, I'M ONLY SOCIETY'S CHILD
WHEN WE'RE OLDER, THINGS MAY CHANGE
BUT FOR NOW THIS IS THE WAY THEY MUST REMAIN

I SAY I CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE, BABY
CAN'T SEE YOU ANY MORE
NO, I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU ANY MORE
BABY
"The Cheat is GROUNDED! We had that lightswitch installed for you so you could turn the lights on and off, not so you could throw lightswitch raves!"

I love the guitar in this song.

Give A Little Bit
by Supertramp

Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
Give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my love to you
There's so much that we need to share
So send a smile and show you care

I'll give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my life for you
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your time to me
See the man with the lonely eyes
O take his hand, you'll be surprised

Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your love to me
I'll give a little bit of my life for you
Now's the time that we need to share
So find yourself, we're on our way back home

...going home...
...don't you need to feel at home...
...oh yeah, we gotta sing

I've travelled the land, with a guitar in my hand
C F
and an eye ever open for some fun.
Dm F C

I've made some mistakes, had my share of the breaks,
C F
seen the boys on the make, and on the bum.
Dm G

Chorus:
Run for home, Run as fast as I can
C Am
Oh running man, running for home.
F G

Run for home, Run as fast as I can
C Am
Oh running man, running for home.
F G

2.)
I've seen all the frowns, on the faces of the clowns
C F
and the downs that they take just to be free.
Dm F C

I've seen all the girls, in their pretty frocks and curls
C F
but they don't mean a lot to me.
Dm G

Chorus:
Run for home, Run as fast as I can
C Am
Oh running man, running for home.
F G A, D

3.)
I've been to the places in town where the faces
D G
hang round just to stare at each other.
Em G D

I've looned with them screamed at the moon
D G
behaved like a buffon, but I soon discovered.
Em A

Chorus:
Run for home, Run as fast as I can
D Bm
Oh running man, running for home.
G A

Run for home, Run as fast as I can
D Bm
Oh running man, running for home.

see above, plus a 3rd time, with vocals only, Break: F, C, G

4.) **
I've travelled the land, made mistakes out of hand
D Bm
seen the faces in the places misunderstand.
G A

I've been round the world, seen the pretty boys and girls
D Bm
heard the noise that destroys and commands.

Chorus:
Run for home, Run as fast as I can

Dug up an old cd yesterday The Best Of Act One Anthony Warlow... an Aussie with a wonderful baritone voice. One song in particular has stuck in my head...from Aspects Of Love.

LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING

Love, love changes everything
Hands and faces, earth and sky
Love, love changes everything
How you live and how you die
Love, can make the summer fly
Or a night seem like a lifetime
Yes love, love changes everything
Now I tremble at your name
Nothing in the world will ever be the same

Love, love changes everything
Days are longer, words mean more
Love, love changes everything
Pain is deeper than before
Love will turn your world around
And that world will last forever
Yes love, love changes everything
Brings you glory, brings you shame
Nothing in the world will ever be the same

Off into the world we go
Planning futures, shaping years
Love (comes in) and suddenly all our wisdom disappears
Love makes fools of everyone
All the rules we made are broken
Yes love, love changes everyone
Live or perish in its flame
Love will never never let you be the same
Love will never never let you be the same
