Phish - Harry Hood

Harry, Harry, where do you go when the lights go out?
Harry, Harry, where do you go when the lights go out?
Harry, Harry, where do you go when the lights go out?
Harry, Harry, where do you go?

Thank you, Mr. Miner
Thank you, Mr. Miner
Thank you, Mr. Miner
Thank you, Mr. Miner
Thank you, Mr. Miner

Thank you, Mr. Hood
I can feel good about, Hood
(I feel good)
I can feel good about, Hood
(I feel good)

I can feel good about, Hood
(I feel good)
I can feel good about, Hood
(I feel good)
You can feel, good

Ego Likeness - Mandala

It all began in sand and dreams
I was blind but there was nothing to see
It all began in prayer and praise
But there was nothing new written on the
Wall that day

It all began with fear and falling
With wings on fire I can tell that
Something's burning
I can tell something's burning
And it all began here

It all began when I followed the line
Now broken down my home that ended
With this fall to the ground now
So broken in my home is empty

With this cold inside this rage
And I am old and slaves are bought
And sold for gold and that means
Nothing to me now
That means nothing to me

In these soft places
In these stone fields
In these high places
I will heal

What may be revealed now
What may be shown
What may be spoken now
What may be known

These things once locked in silence
Now return to me
These things once locked in silence
Now return to me

Stoned and sold and left for dead
In a circle held in place in time
And if I choose to fall again
At least I know the choice is mine
At least I know this voice is mine

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing
News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in
News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying
I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies
I saw boys, toys electric irons and T.V.'s
My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there
And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

A girl my age went off her head, hit some tiny children
If the black hadn't a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them
A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer threw up at the sight of that

I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour, drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine, don't think
you knew you were in this song
And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk

We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, what a surprise
Five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
Five years
Five years
Five years
Five years

And when i go away
I know my heart can stay with my love , it's understood
It's in the hands of my love , and my love does it good
Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo , my love does it good

And when the cupboards bare
I'll still find something there with my love
It's understood , it's everywhere with my love
And my love does it good

Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo , my love does it good

Oh I love oh wo......my love
Only my love holds the other key to me
Oh....my love oh...my love
Only my love does it good to me

(Solo)

Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo , my love does it good

Don't ever ask me why , i never say goodbye to my love
It's understood , it's everywhere with my love
And my love does it good

Wo-wo-wo-wo-wo-wo , my love does it good

Oh I love oh wo......my love
Only my love does it good to me
Woooooooooooooh

I could quote that whole album (and all the other stuff Bowie did in the 60s and early 70s). nGuess we're both Rock'n'Roll Suicides Mr. Sgt.

Here's the one I couldn't get into my head for a long time bvut now can't get out again (and that usually is a sign for a qulaity song). From Johnny Cash's legendary Folsom Prison album:

The Legend of John Henry's Hammer

John Henry's Pappy woke him up one midnight
He said before the sheriff comes I wanna tell you, listen boy,
said learn to hoist a jack, and learn to lay a track, learn to pick and shovel too, and take my hammer, it'll do anything you tell it to

John Henry's mammy had about a dozen babies, John Henry's pappy broke jail a dozen times
the babies all got sick and when the doctor wanted money, he said I’ll pay you quarter at a time, startin’ tomorrow, that’s the pay for a steel driver on this line

Then the section foreman said hey hammer swinger, I see you brought you own hammer boy, but what else can all them muscles do?
and he said, I can hoist a jack, I can lay a track, I can pick and shovel too
and he said “can you swing that hammer ?”
I can I’ll do anything you hire me to

now ain’t you something so high and mighty with your muscles, just go ahead pick up that hammer and show me what you can do

he said get a rusty spike and swing it down three times, I’ll pay you a nickel a day for every inch you sink it to, go on and do what you say you can do

With a steep nose hammer on a four foot switch handle, John Henry raised it back till it touched his heels, then the spike went through the cross tie and it split it half in two, 35 cents a day for driving steel,
(he said sweat boy, sweat, you owe me two more swings)
I was born for driving steel

Well John Henry hammered in the mountain, he'd give a grunt and he'd give groan with every swing, the women folks for miles around, heard him and come down, to watch him make the cold steel ring, lord what a swinger, just listen to that cold steel ring,

but the bad boss come up laughing at John Henry, said you full of vinegar now, but you bout through, were gonna get a steam drill to do your share of driven, then what’s all them muscles gonna do, huh John Henry, gonna take a little bit of vinegar out of you

John Henry said I feed four little brothers, and my baby sister’s walking on her knees, did the lord say that machines ought to take the place of living, and what’s a substitute for bread and beans, I ain’t seen it, do engines get rewarded for their steam.

John Henry said to his captain, a man ain’t nothin’ but a man, but if you bring that steam drill round, I’ll beat it fair and honest, I’ll die with my hammer in my hand, but I’ll be laughing, because you cant replace a steel drivin’ man

There was a big crowd of people at the mountain, John Henry said to the steam drill how is you, pardon me mister steam drill, I suppose you didn’t hear me, I said how you, well can you turn a jack, can you lay a track, can you pick and shovel too, listen this hammer swingers talkin’ to you

2000 people hollered go John Henry, then somebody hollered the mountains caving in, John Henry told the captain, tell the kind folks not to worry, that ain’t nothin’ but my hammer suckin’ wind, keeps me breathing, a steel drivers muscle I intend,

Captain tell the people move back further, I’m at the finish line and I ain’t no drill, she’s so far behind you ain’t got the brains to quit it, when she blows up she'll scatter cross the hills, lord lordy, when she blows up she'll scatter cross the hills

Well John Henry had a little woman, I believe the lady's name was Polly Ann, yeah that was his good woman, John Henry threw his hammer over his shoulder and went on home, he laid down to rest his weary back and early next morning he said come here Polly Ann come here sugar, ya know I believe this is the first time i ever watched the sun come up that i couldn’t come up with it

Take my hammer Polly Ann and go to that rail road, swing that hammer like you seen me do it, and when your swinging with the lead men, they’ll all know they'll all know your John Henry's woman, but tell them that’s not all I can do, tell ‘em I can hoist a jack, and I can lay a track, I can pick and shovel too, ain’t no machine can, that’s been proved to you

There was a big crowd of mourners at the church house, the section hands laid him in the sand, trains go by on the rails John Henry laid, they slow down and take off their hats, the men do, when they come to the place John Henrys laid, rests on his back, some say mornin’ steel driver you sure were a hammer swinger, then they go along pickin’ up speed, clicktey clak, clicktey clak, yonder lies a steel driven man oh lord, yonder lies a steel driven man, yonder lies a steel driven man oh lord, yonder lies a steel driven man

Molly's Song - Roger Waters

Jim: O.K., let's get back to Billy
Billy?… Yo, Billy.

Billy: I'm sorry, Jim.
I was miles away keeping an eye on Molly.

Jim: You were keeping an eye on Molly.
I thought Molly lived in Wales.

Billy: With a certain optic enhanced surveillance satellite,

I can read a newspaper from five hundred miles high, Jim.

Jim: Let me get this clear.
You're trying to tell me that you can keep an eye on Molly
by hacking into a government satellite. Come on.

Hold tight
Baby, feel the starlight
There is a glow in the sky tonight
Moving, could be a satellite

Is it friendly?
Then, will it bring me closer to thee
Heart to heart
Or will it keep us apart, Ben

Benny, Benny, Ben
When you coming home?
'Cause I need you, Ben

And I want you, Ben
Right now, right here, oh
Benny, Benny, Benny
Since you've been gone
I've been so lonely, Ben
And I'm missing you, Benny
And I know you are too
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh
Benny, Benny, Benny
When you coming home?
It's not a home without you, Ben
And I'm missing you so much
Day and night, night and day

Goodbye, little spy in the sky
They say that cameras don't lie
Am I happy, am I sad
Am I good, am I bad?
Ooh, oh, Benny, Benny, when you coming home?

I miss you

This would now have to be one of my all time favorite love songs. And, ok, it might not be for everyone but...well...it's the most beautiful and yet sad love songs ever imo. :) Warning: contains adult themes.

It's worth a listen to! www.youtube.com/watch?v=dysG12QCdTA

Gay Pirates (aka "Yo-Ho Sebastian")
by Cosmo Jarvis

This water is too salty,
For me to even drink.
I'd rather walk the dreaded plank
Than stay another week.

But it's you my love
You're my land ahoy

And i'm sick of being beaten
And whipped and lashed to death,
I want one night with no gang-rape
But i won't hold my breath.

But it's you my love
You're my land ahoy
Yeah, you're my boy

Yo-ho, Sebastian
Let's go far away
Somewhere where the captain won't be mad.
Yo-ho, Sebastian
I want to love you good
We deserve much better than we've had.

They say they're gonna kill me
If i look at you once more.
Pissed in my hammock yesterday,
So I'll sleep on the floor

I'd be under the sea,
but you hold me above.

They put glass on my sandals,
So my feet would bleed all day,
And they forced me to wear them,
Or they said they'd make you pay

I'd be under the sea,
but you hold me above.
'Cos you're the man i love

Yo-ho, Sebastian
Let's go far away
Somewhere where the captain won't be mad.
Yo-ho, Sebastian
I want to love you good
We deserve much better than we've had.

The captain found out 'bout us,
And ordered them to throw,
Us both overboard tonight,
Together we will go.

But i'm yours you know
And I'll love you still in hell

I hope they didn't tie up,
Your hands as tight as mine,
I'll see you on the bed of this
Blue ocean babe, sometime

But i'm yours you know
And I'll love you still in hell
Down we fell
And i'm singing.

Yo-ho, Sebastian
Let's go far away
Somewhere where the captain won't be mad.
Yo-ho, Sebastian
I want to love you good
We deserve much better than we've had.

Yo-ho, Sebastian
Let's go far away
Somewhere where the captain won't be mad.
Yo-ho, Sebastian
I want to love you good
We deserve much better than we've had.

We deserve much better than we've had.

Thank you, Sea. I've never heard of them before, and I like their sound and their skill with lyrics. I've been digging around for other songs, and I'm liking what I'm hearing.

Ahoo Ahooh Ahooh Ahooh Ahooh Ahooh
Spitting in a wishing well
Blown to hell... crash
I'm the last splash
I know you, little libertine
I know you're a real koo koo

Hey now, hey now, ...
Want you, Koo Koo, Cannonball [2x]
In the shade [4x]

I know you, little libertine
I know you're a cannonball
I'll be you're whatever you want
The bong in this Reggae Song

Hey now, hey now, ...
Want you, Koo Koo, Cannonball [2x]
In the shade [4x]

Spitting in a wishing well
Blown to hell... crash
I'm the last splash
I'll be you're whatever you want
The bong in this Reggae Song

Hey now, hey now, ...
Want you, Koo Koo, Cannonball [2x]

Glad you're liking him. :) I'm not a fan of all this stuff but there are some real gems, and I'm a sucker for someone who can do something useful with a recorder (since my father made me learn it for fuppin years and years).

My song today is a Split Enz song. I like some of their stuff, and some I don't, and I don't actually love the original release of this song by Split Enz *however* this version sung by Annie Crummer is *so* gorgeous (and I'm always a sucker for a symphony orchestra backing singers).

I think I might have posted these lyrics before but this is an apt song for my today.

I Hope I Never

I fall apart when your around
When you're here, I'm nowhere
I can't pretend that I'm not down
I show it I know it
I've been a fool - more than once, more than twice
I'm gonna move to a new town where the people are nice

I hope I never, I hope I never have to sigh again
I hope I never, I hope I never have to cry again
I still want to beam and smile yah
Happiness is back in style yeah
I hope I never, I hope I never have to see you again
Again, oh oh oh oh

It should be possible I know
To see you without stress
But I can see I'll have to go
I'm changing my address
My urge to cry I have failed to conceal
Life - it's no fun when your hunted by the things that you feel

I hope I never, I hope I never have to sigh again
I hope I never, I hope I never have to cry again
I'm for living while you can
I'm an optimistic man
I hope I never, I hope I never have to see you again
Again, oh oh oh oh...

I hope I never
I hope I never
I hope I never, never, never...

I hope I never, I hope I never have to see you again

"Moonage Daydream"

I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you
I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you
Keep your mouth shut,
you're squawking like a pink monkey bird
And I'm busting up my brains for the words

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love

Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Don't fake it baby, lay the real thing on me
The church of man, love
Is such a holy place to be
Make me baby, make me know you really care

Make me jump into the air

Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!

Freak out, far out, in out

Imatem - haven
I long to walk among the spires, the futile reach towards the skies.
To celebrate, what we deny, that the choice was wrong.
I long to cross these quiet lands, the skies reflected on the ground.
Would all seem saved, redeemed and pure, if what I’d lost were found again.

What will become of us, I ask, should this chance pass us by?
Our lives spent living with regret if this comes to nothing.
To know we’d found for us, in this, the chance of some safe haven.
With every step we walk away, like we’re gazing at the sun.

I long to sense, among the lies, the chronicles of everything.
Every thought, every word and deed, all that is and has ever been.
Through the tears that you have cried, the song remains and plays again.
The proof of who and what we are, as we meet the morning skies.

What will become of us, I ask, should this chance pass us by?
Our lives spent living with regret if this comes to nothing.
To know we’d found for us, in this, the chance of some safe haven.
With every step we walk away, like we’re gazing at the sun.

Aware for once how far we’ve come, as we greet the morning skies.
All that we know, all that might have been, in place of joy an uneasy calm.
Discarded chances, failed attempts, greatest hours and our sufferance.

What will become of us, I ask, should this chance pass us by?
Our lives spent living with regret if this comes to nothing.
To know we’d found for us, in this, the chance of some safe haven.
With every step we walk away, like we’re gazing at the sun.

What will become of us, I ask?
Discarded chances, failed attempts...
What will become of us, I ask?
...the chance of some safe haven.
Monsters, they eat
Your kind of meat
And they're moving as far as they can
And as fast as they can

Well I was talking last night
Magneto and titanium man . . .
We were talking about you, babe,
Oo --- they said ---
You were involved in a robbery
That was due to happen
At a quarter to three
In the main street.

I didnt believe them
Magneto and titanium man . . .
But when the crimson dynamo
Finally assured me, well, I knew

You were involved in a robbery
That was due to happen
At a quarter to three
In the main street.

So we went out
Magneto and titanium man . . .
And the crimson dynamo
Came along for the ride

We went to town with the library
And we swung all over that
Long tall bank in the main street

Well there she were and to my despair
Shes a five-star criminal
Breaking the code

Magneto said now the time come
To gather our forces and run!!!
Oh no . . . . . .
This cant be so . . . . . .

And then it occurred to me!

You couldnt be bad
Magneto was mad!
Titanium too!
And the crimson dynamo
Just couldnt cut it no more
You were the law . . . . . .

Polku jostain tuttu vie eksyneet mukanaan
Kaatuneet puut metsän reunaan askeleet johdattavat
Tällä vielä kaikuu laulu niiden muinaisten voimien
Joiden kyyneleistä heijastuu lopun nähnyt tähdetön yö
Varmasti lehdet maassa mätänevät jotain muistavat
Ehkä kuulivat kun tuhon airuet tästä ohi ratsastivat
Kaukana sodasta ja nälästä
Kaukana maailmasta joka syttyi tuleen
On tänne jäätävä, meitä on niin vähän
Luotettava jumaliin, ehkä hetken vielä selviämme
Saamme yösijan viereltä kantojen, lehvistä peiton
On turha pelätä virtaavaa vettä
Ei täällä taivaalta sada tuhkaa
Jos et tunne itseäsi pimeässä
Et tiedä mitä kuulet hiljaisuudessa
Suusta suuhun kulkevat ikiaikaiset viisaudet
Sanat vuosilta ennen syntymäämme
Kaiken sen tiesimme vaan emme ymmärtäneet
Kun tuhannet silmät meitä tuijottavat
Niiden suuntaan kääntyvät päämme
Kohdatkaa muinaiset!
Muinainen mahti, joka repii luomukset ihmisten
Ja syntyy itse uudelleen
Kun taivas aukenee ja kastelee maan
Juurtuu kiveen puu jokainen
Niin kaatuvat seinät linnoitusten
Kuin lasi pirstoutuvat vihan muurit
Ruostuvat koneet ajan edestämme päättyneen
Jäävät pohjaan laivat unohtuneet
Ja jälkemme huuhtoutuvat puhtaaseen veteen
Hetkessä pyyhkiytyvät vuodet tuhannet
Palaavat maahan pyhät kirjoitukset
Kohdatkaa muinaiset!
Kohdatkaa uusi maailma!

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God’s love be with you

Spoken:
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Lift-off

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You’ve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare

“This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I’m stepping through the door
And I’m floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
am I sitting in my tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do

Though I’m past one hundred thousand miles
I’m feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much (she knows!)
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit’s dead, there’s something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear....

“ am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there’s nothing I can do.?

vnv nation - chrome
A million faces, each a million lies
for each and all a chrome disguise
prompts for action, force reaction
embody promise in a sheen so pure.
Hurt, the measure of blind ambition,
the testament to your singular disease.
Against all wisdom you heed no warning,
your desires giving you away.

If I could change your mind,
I wouldn't save you from the path you wander.
In desperation dreams, any soul can set you free.
And I still hear you scream,
in every breath, in every single motion.
Burning innocence, the fire to set you free.

Your actions turn conquest to dust.
In portents of fate, you foolishly place trust.
Sense fear in your broken breathing.
Resort to shadows till your body expires.
All creation has the promise of heaven,
and still you travel the road to hell.
I'm saying nothing for the good of myself,
but I'm still talking and you're not listening.

If I could change your mind,
I wouldn't save you from the path you wander.
In desperation dreams, any soul can set you free.
And I still hear you scream,
in every breath, in every single motion.
Burning innocence, the fire to set you free.

As night descends upon the city,
the streets are cold, the lights go by.
And in the stories of the people,
a million faces, a million lies.
They'll never say they feel what you feel,
that they can see the world you see.
And in their faces, their expressions,
a million faces, a million lies.
Monsters, they eat
Your kind of meat
And they're moving as far as they can
And as fast as they can

This mellow, sweet, short-haired boy, woman offers pull up a seat
Take in one symphony now, we've just begun to battle
Wrap your heel in bones of steel, turn the leg, a twist of color
Autumn waited hold it to you in the colored come another

(chorus 2)
Seven chinese brothers swallowing the ocean
Seven thousand years to sleep away the pain
She will return, she will return

This mellow, sweet, short-haired boy, woman offers pull up a seat
Take in one symphony now, we've just begun to battle
Wrap your heel in bones of steel, turn the leg, a twist of color
Autumn waded seven seas when the colored come another

(repeat chorus 2)

This mellow, sweet, short-haired boy, woman offers pull up a chair
Take in one symphony now, I guess we lost that battle
Wrap your heel in bones of steel, turn the leg, a twist of color
Autumn waded seven seas swimming colored come another

Seven chinese brothers swallowing the ocean
Seven thousand years the Communi did reign
She will return, she will return

legendary pink dots - third secret
New martyrs swinging in the wind. The dead eyes searching for messiahs in The stars. The bodies carrying the scars of no confession, no concession.
No sympathy. The laughter from the front row buzzing loudly now in bars, Over chicken in a basket, in the darkest corners of the Central Station.
Passing round the spirit that drove Rommel to his desert hole, smashed Diamonds, stripped the gold from hidden cities in Brazil. And killed the Savage in the name of Mary... Burn the witch, whip the bitch who shows her Ankles on the Sabbath.
Bring the kids aged 1 to 63 - the family treat. Maybe there will be a vision of messiahs in the stars.
Now all confess and Make a wish. The priest is passing round the dish...our Lady's selling Tissues for the tears, for all the years of blessed rape in the name of Our sweet lord.
Monsters, they eat
Your kind of meat
And they're moving as far as they can
And as fast as they can
