The Beatles - Across The Universe
Words are flowing out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting through my open mind
Possessing and caressing me
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Sounds of laughter shades of earth
are ringing through my opened ears
inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe
Words are flowing out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting through my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

Right, get ready for the mush. My hubbie was away for an extended business trip recently and it was the first time we had been separated in nearly 16 years of marriage. I was feeling really lonely even though we spoke over the phone every night. He suprised me by sending flowers and a letter with the words to this song. He`s a nerd, but a romantic nerd
If you`re not the one
Then why does my soul feel glad today?
If you`re not the one
Then why does my hand fit your`s this way?
If you are not mine
Then why does your heart return my call?
If you are not mine
Would I have the strength to stand at all?
I`ll never know what the future brings,
But I know you`re here with me now.
We`ll make it through and I hope you are
The one I share my life with.
I don`t want to run away,
But I can`t take it,
I can`t understand.
If I`m not made for you
Then why does my heart
Tell me that I am?
Is there any way
That I can stay in your arms?
If I don`t need you
Then why am I crying on my bed?
If I don`t need you
Then why does your name resound in my head?
If you`re not for me
Then why does this distance main my life?
If you`re not for me
Then why do I dream of you as my wife?
I don`t know why you`re so far away,
But I know that this much is true.
We`ll make it through and I hope you are
The one I share my life with;
And I wish that you could be the one I die with;
And I pray that you`re the one I build my home with.
I hope I love you all my life.
Cos I miss you, bodyand soul so strong
That it takes my breath away;
And I breathe you into my heart
And pray for the strength to stand today.
Cos I love you, whether its wrong or right,
And though I can`t be with you tonight,
You know that my heart is by your side.
The song is a recent one by Daniel Beddingfield "If You`re Not The One" and its a "poppy" one
But it had the desired effect at the time
And I suppose there`ll be a good number of you throwing up right about now?
If you`re not the one
Then why does my soul feel glad today?
If you`re not the one
Then why does my hand fit your`s this way?
If you are not mine
Then why does your heart return my call?
If you are not mine
Would I have the strength to stand at all?

Never has a song made me cry, but if one could, I think, for some strange reason, parts of this song would. By the way, if you've never heard it, go out and buy Magical Mystery Tour now! This is probably my favourite Beatles song, now, and my #2 all-time favorite song under the unmovable Kashmir.
The Fool On The Hill
(Lennon/McCartney)
Day after day
alone on a hill
the man with the foolish grin
is keeping perfectly still
but nobody wants to know him
they can see that he's just a fool
and he never gives an answer
But the fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round
Well on the way
head in a cloud
the man of a thousand voices
talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
or the sounds he appears to make
and he never seems to notice
But the fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round
And nobody seems to like him
they can tell what he wants to do
and he never shows his feelings
But the fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round
He never listens to them
he knows that they're the fools
they don't like him
The fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round
Ohhh

The Power Of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood - has some pretty awesome lyrics and there`s even a vampire reference.
(spoken) I`ll protect you from the hooded claw
Deep the vampires from your door
Feels like fire
I`m so in love with you
Dreams are like angels
They keep bad at bay
Love is the light
Scaring darkness away
I`m so in love with you
Purge the soul
Make love you goal
The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
I`ll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
When the chips are down I`ll be around
With my undying, death-defying love for you
Envy will hurt itself
Let yourself be beautiful
Sparkling love flowers and pearls and pretty girls
Love is like an energy
Rushing in rushing inside of me,
The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Burns the soul
Make love your goal
This time we go sublime
Lovers entwine, devine, devine
Love is danger, love is pleasure
Love is pure the only treasure
I`m so in love with you
Burns the soul
Make love your goal
The power of love
A force from above
Cleaning my soul
The power of love
A force from above
A skyscraping dove
Flame on burn desire
Love with tongues of fire
Purge the soul
Make love your goal
(spoken) I`ll protect you from the hooded claw
Keep the vampires from your door
The musical arrangment of this song is mind-blowing.

Okay, I'm sure most everybody here knows this one, but for the benefit of anyone who doesn't I'll print the lyrics anyway.
My child was born just the other day
he came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talking 'fore I knew it
and as he grew, he said
"I'm gonna be like you dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you"
And the cat's in the cradle with a silver spoon
little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you comin' home dad?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then."
"You know we'll have a good time then."
Well my son turned ten just the other day
said "Thanks for the ball Dad, come on let's play
can you teach me to throw?"
I said "Not today, I've got a lot to do."
He said "That's OK" And he walked away
but his smile never dimmed, he said
"I'm gonna be like him, yeah
you know I'm gonna be like him"
And the cat's in the cradle with the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you comin' home dad?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then."
"You know we'll have a good time then."
Well he came from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son I'm proud of you can you sit for awhile?
He shook his head
and he said with a smile
"What I'd really like Dad is to borrow the car keys
see you later, can I have them please?"
And the cat's in the cradle with the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you comin' home dad?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then."
"We're gonna have a good time then."
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said "I'd love to Dad if I can find the time
you see my new job's a hassle
and the kids have the flu
but it's sure nice talking to you Dad,
it's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
he'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.
And the cat's in the cradle with a silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you comin' home dad?"
"I don't know when, but we'll get together then."
"You know we'll have a good time then."
Cat's in the Cradle - Cat Stevens
That one makes me cry every time I hear it. It's a song about a man who was so intent on making something of himself, he missed everything that makes it worthwhile.
My child was born just the other day

He learned to walk while I was away.

Every time? What if they played that song on a radio station 24/7?
Hey, Cat Stevens wrote it? I just read it was performed by Harry Chapin and the lyrics by Sandra Chapin. Methinks Harry was that guy who died in a carwreck in 86 or something.

Too lazy to write down the complete lyrics, but Skylark's Wildflower is a tragic but moving story of an abused girl. It was written by a policeman who felt so sorry for the girl.
Let her cry for she's a lady.
Let her dream for she's a child.
Let the rain fall down upon her head.
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild.
Let her cry for she's a lady.
Let her dream for she's a child.
Let the rain fall down upon her head.
She's a free and gentle flower growing wild.
"Do you have a wife?"
"At one time."
"What happened to her?"
"She has been dead."
"How long ago did she die?"
"Two thousand years."
"At one time."
"What happened to her?"
"She has been dead."
"How long ago did she die?"
"Two thousand years."

I'm pretty sure Cats in the Cradle is Harry Chapin. Possibly someone else, but definitely not Cat Stevens.
Lord Foul, you do, indeed, know the truth when you see it!
OK, anybody know the movie this song is from?
One Tin Soldier
Listen, children, to a story
that was written long ago,
'bout a kingdom on a mountain
and a valley far below.
On the mountain was a treasure
buried deep beneath a stone,
and the valley people swore
they'd have it for their very own.
Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
you can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin'
come the Judgement Day.
On the bloody mornin' after
one tin soldier rides away.
So the people of the valley
sent a message up the hill,
asking for the buried treasure-
tons of gold, for which they'd kill.
Came an answer from the kingdom,
"With our brothers we will share
all the secrets of our mountain,
all the riches buried there."
Now the valley cried with anger,
"Mount your horses, draw your swords."
And they killed the mountain people,
so they won their just reward
Now they stood beside the treasure
on the mountain, darkened red,
turned the stone and looked beneath it:
"Peace On Earth" was all it said.
Go ahead and hate your neighbor,
go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of Heaven,
you can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin'
come the Judgement Day.

Since LF's post I've been wondering bout lyrics that make you cry--I have cried to this song more than once, I don't kno y, guess it's my crazy Scottish blood (the same way my dad cries whenever he hears Mol of Kintyre...). It's one of the more haunting songs you'll ever hear--if you ever get a chance to hear it you'll truly be blessed:
Caledonia by Dougie MacLean
I don't know if you can see
the changes that have come over me
in these last few days I've been afraid
that I might drift away
so I've been telling old stories, singing songs
that make me think about where I came from
and that's the reason why I seem
so far away today
ah but let me tell you that I love you
and I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me
and now I'm going home
but if I should become a stranger
you know that it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had
I have moved and kept on moving
proved the points that I needed proving
lost the friends that I needed losing
found others on the way
I have kissed the ladies, left them crying
stolen dreams, yes there's no denying
I have travelled hard,
sometimes with conscience flying
somewhere in the wind
Chorus
Now I'm sitting here before the fire
the empty room, the forest choir
the flames that couldn't get any higher
they've withered, now they've gone
but I'm steady thinking, my way is clear
and I know what I will do tomorrow
the hands have shaken and the kisses flow
now I will disappear
Chorus

fall far and well Pilots!
Hello, Dromond. I liked Billy Jack, too. I found the soundtrack review with a list of songs. If you scroll down, you'll even see a list of performers.

Taxi is my favorite Chapin song too. But I've heard Cats in the Cradle MUCH more, so it's lost some of its attraction. Still, they're both great songs!
Thanks Bannor for finding that. No Dromond, I wouldn't have known any other songs, even though I have the dvd box set of all 4 Billy Jack movies. AND, I found a copy of the book in a used book store many years ago. The movie wasn't based on this book, the book is the screenplay for the movie.
