thanks for the utopia Endy :D

for some reason these two songs have always seemed sort of companion
pieces to me

The rangers had a homecoming in harlem late last night
And the magic rat drove his sleek machine over the jersey state line
Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a dodge
Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The rat pulls into town rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance and disappear down flamingo lane

Well the maximum lawman run down flamingo chasing the rat
and the barefoot girl
And the kids round here look just like shadows
always quiet, holding hands
From the churches to the jails tonight all is silence in the world
As we take our stand
down in jungleland

The midnight gangs assembled and picked a rendezvous for the night
beneath that giant exxon sign that brings this fair city light
Man there's an opera out on the turnpike
There's a ballet being fought out in the alley
Until the local cops' cherry tops, rips this holy night

The streets alive as secret debts are paid
Contacts made, they vanished unseen
Kids flash guitars just like switch-blades
hustling for the record machine
The hungry and the hunted
explode into rocknroll bands
That face off against each other out in the street
down in jungleland

In the parking lot the visionaries dress in the latest rage
Inside the backstreet girls are dancing to the records that the d.j. plays
Lonely-hearted lovers struggle in dark corners
Desperate as the night moves on,
just a look and a whisper,
and they're gone

Beneath the city
two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender
in a bedroom locked
In whispers of soft
refusal
and then
surrender

in the tunnels uptown
The rats own dream guns him down
as shots echo down them hallways in the night

No one watches when the ambulance pulls away

Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside the streets on fire in a real death waltz
Between flesh and what's fantasy
oh man the poets down here don't write nothing at all,
they just stand back and let it all be

And in the quick of the night they reach for their moment and try to make an honest stand

but they wind up wounded, not even dead

Tonight in
jungle
land...

I say this was no game of chicken
You were aiming at your best friend
That you wear her like a switchblade on a chain around your neck
I think you picked this up in Mexico from your dad
Now it's daddy on the booze
And Brando on the ice
Now it's Dean in the doorway
With one more way he can't play this scene twice
So you drug her down every drag of this forbidden fit of love
And you told her to stand tall when you kissed her
But that's not where you were thinking...
How could a Natalie Wood not get sucked into a scene so custom tucked?
How now look who shows up
In the same place
In this case
I think it's better
To face it ---
We belong together
We belong together

Once Johnny the King made a spit ring
And all the skid kids saw a very, very proud man
And he entwined her in his fingers
And she lay there like a baby in his hand
They climb up on the rooftop docks lookin' out on the crosstown seas
And he wraps his jacket across her shoulders
And falls and hugs and holds her on his knees
But a sailor just takes a broad down to the dark end of the fair
and turns her into a tattoo
That will whisper
Into the back of
Johnny's black hair
And now Johnny the King walks these streets without her in the rain
Lookin' for a leather jacket
And a girl who wrote her name forever
A promise that ---
We belong together
We belong together

Shall we weigh along these streets
Young lions on the lam?
Are the signs you hid deep in your heart
All left in neon for them?
Who are foolish
Who are victim
Of the sailors and the ducky boys who would
Move into your eyes and lips and
Every tear
That falls down on the neighborhood now

I said "Bird, we just gotta tell them"
And they turn and ignore us
And the only heroes we got left
Are written right before us
And the only angel who sees us now
Watches through each other's eyes

And I can hear him
In every footstep's passing sigh
He goes crazy these nights

Watching heartbeats go by

And they wisper
We belong together
We belong together
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

Lucy,
Love those two also. What I find with Rudgren's and Springsteen's songs are that my soul rises up to meet them. When I hear them they stir me up inside and I have to 'groove' with them.

The Ricki song, I have to get in a quiet place and turn it up loud, but love the lyrics and the mood.

Genesis : Home By The Sea

Creeping up the blind side, shinning up the wall
Stealing thru the dark of night
Climbing thru a window, stepping to the floor
Checking to the left and the right
Picking up the pieces, putting them away
Something doesnt't't feel quite right

Help me someone, let me out of here
Then out of the dark was suddenly heard
Welcome to the home by the sea

Coming out the woodwork, thru the open door
Pushing from above and below
Shadows but no substance, in the shape of men
Round and down and sideways they go
Adrift without direction, eyes that hold despair
Then as one they sign and they moan

Help us someone, let us out of here
Living here so long undisturbed
Dreaming of the time we were free
So many years ago
Before the time when we first heard
Welcome to the home by the sea

Sit down sit down
Sit down sit down sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you

Images of sorrow, pictures of delight
Things that go to make up a life
Endless days of summer longer nights of gloom
Waiting for the morning light
Scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame
Things that go to make up a life

Help us someone, let us out of here
Cos living here so long undisturbed
Dreaming of the time we were free
So many years ago
Before the time when we first heard
Welcome to the home by the sea

Sit down sit down
Sit down sit down sit down sit down
As we relive out lives in what we tell you
Let us relive out lives in what we tell you

Sit down sit down sit down
Cos you wont get away
No with us you will stay
For the rest of your days - sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you
Let us relive our lives in what we tell you

"Late Lament"

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one,
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son,
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night,
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white.
But we decide which is right.
And which is an illusion?

The poem at the end of Days of Future Past (Moody Blues)
I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

"I must state plainly, Linden, that you have become wondrous in my sight."

"Green Is The Colour"

Heavy hung the canopy of blue
Shade my eyes and I can see you
White is the light that shines through the dress that you wore
She lay in the shadow of the wave
Hazy were the visions of her playing
Sunlight on her eyes but moonshine beat her blind everytime
Green is the colour of her kind
Quickness of the eye deceives the mind
Many is the bond between the hopefull and the damned

into the wild - lp

Post by Theo Mach II »

  • into the wild
    • are we on the lonely side
      • now the past long away
        • are we so lost in the dark of our hearts
      • that there's no light of day

    somebody left the gate open
you know we got lost on the way
come save us a runaway train
    goin insane

    • how do we not fade away

    into the wild
    • how are we living

    oh please believe me

    • im more scared than not
      • that oh now this isnt the way
        • and please be there
      • I can barely hang on
    • but oh I wait til I b r e a k

    somebody left the gate open
you know we got lost on the way
come save us a runaway train
    goin insane

    • how do we not fade away

    into the wild
    • how are we living
thoughts have no lips
but they speak
they make no sounds
but we listen

The Rising Tide
The Killers

The streets of persuasion
Are plated with gold
Your heart's in the right place,
But you travel down the wrong road
Like so many before you
The gates open wide

Here comes the rising tide

Let's go out, tonight
There's a mystery underneath those neon lights
Before life and dream collide
Cause the truth's gonna come and cut me open wide
And you can't escape the rising of the tide

Keep up your appearance, you join the choir
With everybody singing out
Glory Hallelujah
The time came for your solo
But there was nowhere to hide

Here comes the rising tide

And the company you keep
Well they plan your crucifixion
as we speak
So, baby til the life and the dream collide
There's gonna be a mystery underneath those neon lights
If you can't decipher just who's on your side
You will not escape the rising of the tide

Can you tell me brother was I deceived, or in denial?
I was there, in the back of the room, when you testified
With your pitchfork tongue, you licked your lips, and lied
We're never gonna know how hard you cried
When you petitioned and your access was denied
Till the venom in your veins is satisfied
Till you suffocate and swallow down the pride

Well you can't escape
(You can't escape)
Well you can't escape
(You can't escape)
Well you can't escape the rising of the tide

Where We Are
Billy the Kid

I can't hold you close and I can't have you near
Or let you go or keep you here
And I can't change a thing
And I can't change your mind
Or save the day
Or go back in time
Because where we are
Is just where we are
falling farther from so far
Underneath morning sheets
Tell me
Tell me you need me

Twilight breaks and I break in two
I wake alone
And without you
So far apart
Cross your heart
And take me home
Wherever you are
Take me home wherever you are
Take me home wherever
You are so afraid
It's okay
But I can feel you slipping more each day
it's okay
Safe to say
I guess we both know that you weren't going to stay

Where we are is just where we are
Falling farther from so far
Underneath midnight sheets
Tell me
Tell me you need me
Tell me
Tell me you need me
Tell me
Tell me you need me

Walk With Me
Lisa Mitchell

The days go in and out,
On and on and further out
Quietness I always find,
In my heart, in my mind
Give me a sunny day,
Give me a field of hay
Under the calm trees,
Walk with me, walk with me
Walk with me
Walk with me

Oh I've seen your face before
Know those lines, have done those chores
Other forms of restless souls
Walk with me, walk with me
Under the milky way,
There's dozens of this left to play
Neighbor neighbor, matchstick maker
Walk with me, walk with me
Walk with me
Walk with me

I wanna stay up late, I wanna feel your pain
I can't wait
I wanna hold your hand, I wanna understand
This broken land

Nobody deserves this, nobody deserves this
Nobody deserves this, nobody deserves this

When you were in the cage,
Tired and damp and locked away
What did you cling to
Talk to me, talk to me
What did it look like, what did it feel like
Was it a golden thread,
A glowing light, an angel's head

I wanna stay up late, I wanna feel your pain
I can't wait
I wanna hold your hand, I wanna understand
This broken land

Nobody deserves this, nobody deserves this
Nobody deserves this, nobody deserves this

Well the days go in and out,
On and on and further out
Quietness I always find,
In my heart, in my mind

here i am back at rundgren again endy! :D

Kindred spirits moving along the spiral
I can see you up on another level
It's too great a fall
And I can't reach you to pull me higher
But I don't seem to get much closer or any more far

What would you tell me, if I could hear you speaking?
If you could touch me, how would I know the feeling?
I just can't imagine
But I try to do it anyway
I wish I was moving faster, I wish you'd drift back
But it just wasn't meant to happen
Very soon I'll have to

Face the fact
Some things never come together
Parallel lines running on forever
And you can't turn back
There is never any starting over
Parallel lines never do cross over

It's a challenge
Gotta make myself remember
Facing the truth, well, that doesn't mean surrender
What is bravado and how much is a force of will?
I know that the world is full of opposites that attract
But unless we ignore the physics
Very soon we'll have to

Face the fact
Some things never come together
Parallel lines running on forever
And you can't turn back
There is never any starting over
Parallel lines never do cross over

So I send you the gift of empathy
If you'd once in your life acknowledge me
I have visualized so thoroughly
That when I think of me I think of we

Can't face the truth
It means that we must surrender
Understanding won't satisfy the hunger
It whittles away at the destiny we fulfill
And like an animal running wild
You can't call it back
And it's just gonna make it harder
When it's finally time to

Face the fact
Some things never come together
Parallel lines running on forever
And you can't turn back
There is never any starting over
Parallel lines never do cross over

Luci, I wasn't familiar with that one, but always love the emotion Todd pours into his songs. I'll have to find a copy and grab it. Thanks :)

"Do It Now"
Ingrid Michaelson

Sitting in the back of the bus
Talking about nothing, oh we're talking about us
Watching as the world goes hammering on
Hammering on

You say that you've got nothing left
There's nothing left in you to find
You're gonna ride it out gonna wait it out
Living to die, you're living to die

No one's gonna wait for you
No one's gonna wait for you

So do it now
Do it right now
Don't waste a minute on the darkness and the pity sitting in your mind and
Do it right now
Do it right now

Everything will stop on a dime
Everything will crash into itself in good time
Do you want to beat your own heart beat your own heart
Or leave it behind
Leave it behind

No one's gonna wait for you
No one's gonna wait for you

So do it now
Do it right now
Don't waste a minute on the darkness and the pity sitting in your mind and
Do it right now
Do it right now

I'm gonna get up I'm gonna get right out of my bed, get out of my bed
You're gonna stand up, you're gonna stand right up again stand right up again
I'm gonna get up I'm gonna get out of my bed, get out of my head
You're gonna stand up, you're gonna stand up
You're gonna stand up
You're gonna stand up

So do it now
Do it right now
Don't waste a minute on the darkness and the pity sitting in your mind and
Do it right now
Do it right now

Jonathan Coulton - Skullcrusher Mountain

Welcome to my secret lair on Skullcrusher Mountain
I hope that you've enjoyed your stay so far
I see you've met my assistant Scarface
His appearance is quite disturbing
But I assure you he's harmless enough
He's a sweetheart, calls me master
And he has a way of finding pretty things and bringing them to me

Oh, and I'm so into you
But I'm way too smart for you
Even my henchmen think I'm crazy
I'm not surprised that you agree
If you could find some way to be
A little bit less afraid of me
You'd see the voices that control me from inside my head
Say I shouldn't kill you yet

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you
But I get the feeling that you don't like it
What's with all the screaming?
You like monkeys, you like ponies
Maybe you don't like monsters so much
Maybe I used too many monkeys
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

Oh, and I'm so into you
But I'm way too smart for you
Even my henchmen think I'm crazy
I'm not surprised that you agree
If you could find some way to be
A little bit less afraid of me
You'd see the voices that control me from inside my head
Say I shouldn't kill you yet

Picture the two of us alone inside my golden submarine
While up above the waves my doomsday squad ignites the atmosphere
And all the fools who lead their foolish lives may find it quite explosive
Well it won't mean half as much to me if I don't have you here

You know it isn't easy living here on Skullcrusher Mountain
Maybe you could cut me just a little slack
Would it kill you to be civil?
I've been patient, I've been gracious
And this mountain is covered with wolves
Hear them howling, my hungry children
Maybe you should stay and have another drink and think about me and you

Oh, and I'm so into you
But I'm way too smart for you
Even my henchmen think I'm crazy
I'm not surprised that you agree
If you could find some way to be
A little bit less afraid of me
You'd see the voices that control me from inside my head
Say I shouldn't kill you yet
I shouldn't kill you yet
I shouldn't kill you yet

Pink Martini w/ Storm Large - Splendour in the Grass

I can see you're thinking baby I've been thinking too about the way we used to be and how to start anew

Maybe I'm a hopeless dreamer maybe I've got it wrong but I'm going where the grass is green if you'd like to come along

Back when I was starting out I always wanted more but every time I got it I still felt just like before

Fortune is a fickle friend I'm tired of chasing fate and when I look into your eyes I know you feel the same

All these years of living large are starting to do us in I won't say it wasn't fun but now it has to end

Life is moving oh so fast I think we should take it slow rest our heads upon the grass and listen to it grow

Going where the hills are green and the cars are few and far days are full of splendor and at night you can see the stars

Life's been moving oh so fast I think we should take it slow rest our heads upon the grass and listen to it grow

Ray LaMontagne
I Still Care For You

Hear me out
Day follows day
Light turns to
clay in my hands

How to explain,
So pristine the pain
Kindness made
the cut so
clean

I still care for you

Hear me out
Wanted me to be
Less your lover
than a mirror

Can't you see
What you mean to me?
(even promises may bleed)

I still care for you

The hours grow
Heavy,
And hollow,
And cruel as a grave

Open Me
You'll find
Only bones
burned to glass.

I still care for you

Last Night On Earth Again
by Over the Rhine

Down south where Elvis is king
And Jesus is Lord
We drove just shy of forever
In our wheezy old Ford
Hey love, don’t you think this life
Has grown a little absurd?
He said, Not bad for a Yankee girl
Destined for Betty Ford
(Oh Lord I said)

Help me, it’s our last night on earth again
Help me, it’s our last night on earth again
I’ve been livin’ this so-called life since I can’t remember when
Help me, it’s our last night on earth again

Down in Texas where guns and guitars
Are the friends a man loves best
You might feel like your spinning wheels
Are truly headed West
Someone said the best we can hope for
Is to make a beautiful mess
I put my soul up for sale
And the whole world asked,
Could you take any less?

Help me, it’s our last night on earth again
Help me, it’s our last night on earth again
I told Jesus he could have my heart
He said, What kinda shape’s it in?
Help me, it’s our last night on earth again

Down South where Elvis is king
And Jesus is Lord
We played our songs in a field
Where they found a Civil War sword
I was singin’ Amazing Grace
And someone yelled, Freebird
I strummed and smiled to myself and said,
Honey, it’s a bitch to be ignored

Help me, it’s our last night on earth again
Help me, it’s our last night on earth again
I’ve been wonderin’ my whole life,
How’s this goin’ to end?
Help me, it’s our last night on earth again

Burn It Down
Jill And Kate

Got a place
And I settled in
Found a man
Who was everything
Everything I wanted
Everything I wanted
Everything I
Caught that liar in his tracks
And I said some things I can never take back
Wouldn't if I could
Wouldn't if I could
I wouldn't if I could
One more ride around this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
One more night inside this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
Burn it down
Burn it down
Thought I finally found some friends
Til I felt the knife break through the skin
I wondered if I could
Ever forgive
Oh I wondered
If I could
High and dry in the middle of the night
Nothing to show in the middle of my life
I'd die if I could
Die if I could
Die if I could
One more ride around this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
One more night inside this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
Burn it down
Burn it down
I'll drive away and I'll never look back
I'll drive away and I'll never look back
I'll drive away and I'll never look back
One more ride around this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
One more night inside this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
Burn it down
Burn it down
One more cry inside this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
One more lie inside this town
I think I'm gonna burn it down
Burn it down
Burn it down

A Single Explosion:

dreamt last night of sirens
By flashlight I had found you
You just held my hand
By the bright lights in some ICU
Even the planless have a plan

I can't write love songs when I'm on these things
I'm affable, responsible, but hard to be around
It's correctible and they're right you know
It's as easy as it sounds
It's all as easy as it sounds

I dreamt last night I saw you
A single spark explosion negotiating with the dead
By the bright lights in some ICU
On my chest you put your head
And said...
There you are
There you are
There's my heart
"I am He, that arrogant fool who thought he could thwart death itself with his money."

I love that song!! I'm so happy that I got someone to listen to his songs! If you actually like him you should try listening to apparitions. it's from his younger days and it's great!

please make sure you listen to this version... apparations is really hard to sing live.
