Title says it all.

I'll start with Jewel, Foolish Games

You took your coat off and stood in the rain,
You're always crazy like that.
And I watched from my window,
Always felt I was outside looking in on you.
You're always the mysterious one with
Dark eyes and careless hair,
You were fashionably sensitive
But too cool to care.
You stood in my doorway, with nothing to say
Besides some comment on the weather.

Well in case you failed to notice,
In case you failed to see,
This is my heart bleeding before you,
This is me down on my knees, and...

These foolish games are tearing me apart,
And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart.
You're breaking my heart.

You're always brilliant in the morning,
Smoking your cigarettes and talking over coffee.
Your philosophies on art, Baroque moved you.
You loved Mozart and you'd speak of your loved ones
As I clumsily strummed my guitar.

You'd teach me of honest things,
Things that were daring, things that were clean.
Things that knew what an honest dollar did mean.
I hid my soiled hands behind my back.
Somewhere along the line, I must've gone
Off track with you.

Excuse me, think I've mistaken you for somebody else,
Somebody who gave a damn,
Somebody more like myself.

You took your coat off,
Stood in the rain,
You're always crazy like that.

gonna be predictable and go with a Tool lyric
Lateralus
Black then white are all i see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.
as below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.

Black then white are all i see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more and
beckons me to look thru to these infinite possibilities.
as below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind.
Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.

I embrace my desire to
I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired to fathom the power, to witness the beauty,
to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human.

With my feet upon the ground I move myeslf between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out. I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Sister moon
will be my guide
in your blue blue shadows
I would hide
All good people
asleep tonight
I'm all by myself
In your silver light
You watch every night, you don't care what I do...
I'd go out of my mind but for you

.......I'm a stranger to the sun
my eyes are too weak
How cold is a heart?
When it's love that I seek....

My mistress' eyes
Are nothing like the sun
My hunger for her
explains everything I've done
To howl at the moon
the whole night thru
and they really don't care if I do...
I'd go out of my mind but for you....Sister Moon!

Standing here
the old man said to me
"Long before these crowded streets
here stood my Dreaming Tree."
Below it he would sit for
hours at a time.
Now progress takes away
what forever took to find.

And now he's falling hard.
He feels the falling dark.
How he longs to be
beneath his dreaming tree.
Conquered fear to climb.
A moment froze in time
When the girl who first he kissed
promised him she'd be his.

Remember Mothers words
there beneath the tree
"No matter what the world,
ou'll always be my baby."
Mommy come quick
the Dreaming Tree has died.
The air is growing thick
the fear he cannot hide.

The Dreaming Tree has died.

Oh have you no pity
this thing I do
I do not deny it.
All through this smile
as crooked as danger
I do not deny
I know in my mind
I would leave you now
if I had the strength to.
I would leave you
up to your own devices.
Will you not talk?
Can you take pity?
I don't ask much
but won't you speak please?

From the start she
knew she had it made.
Easy up 'til then.
For sure she'd make the grade.
Adorers came in hordes
to lay down in her wake.
Gave it all she had
but treasures slowly fade.

And now she's falling hard.
She feels the fall of dark.
How did this fall apart?
She drinks to fill it up.
A smile of sweetest flowers
wilted so and soured.
Black tears stain the cheeks
that once were so admired.

She thinks when she was small
there on her Fathers knees
How he had promisede her
"You'll always be my baby."
Daddy come quick
the Dreaming Tree has died.
I can't find my way home
There is no place to hide.

The Dreaming Tree has died.

Oh if I had the strength to
I would leave you
up to your own devices.
Will you not talk?
Can you take pity?
I don't ask much
but won't you speak please?

Take me back
Take me back
Take me back
Take me back

Save me please

Here's a song of Peter Gabriel's:

"Solsbury Hill"

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
Had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
(I) just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom boom
"Son," he said "Grab your things,
I've come to take you home."

To keepin' silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut
"Till I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
(Back home.)

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No on taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" I said "You can keep my things,
they've come to take me home."

Thomas D., Liebesbrief

siehst du mich an,
und ich kann bin ich ehrlich,
dir gar nichts versprechen,
denn das wäre Betrug,
doch du sagst mit nem Lächeln,
jetzt und hier ist genug.
Du bist der Sand im Getriebe,
der Gedankenmaschine,
und ich nehm dich mit
auf einen Nachtflug.

Leg deine Arme um mich,
dass meine Narbe die ich,
hier auf meinem Herz trage,
nicht mehr schmerzt,
wenn du fragst warum mußte ich mich
für dich gewinnen dann sag ich
Straßenköter wie ich,
sind manchmal gern drin
und wenn einer von uns beiden
wieder streunend verschwindet,

Lord Foul wrote:I'll give you the White Gold for naming it, but I'm afraid your "PS" answer was wrong, Servo! :? But, um, maybe you ARE right and MY answer is wrong. It's just that my English Lit teacher told me it meant something different. Of course, feel free to try again. The key clue in the line is "miller".
Indeed, my mistake - the line "A whiter shade of pale" is from Quissama. The one about the miller is a reference to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales ... at least, many people think it is, but Keith Reid said ""One thing people always get wrong is that line about The Miller's Tale, [...] I've never read Chaucer in my life. They're right off the track there."

And don't you think I really know these things, I'm just good at googling.

EDIT: Got them, but donated them back to you cause I didn't really know. ;)

I don't know much music trivia, so I never heard about it. But my guess would have been Schubert's Die Schone Mullerin. (Sorry, I can't do umlauts. Assuming that's how you spell that word. :))

Dawn of light lying between a silence and sold sources,
Chased amid fusions of wonder, in moments hardly seen forgotten,
Coloured in pastures of chance dancing leaves cast spells of challenge,
Amused but real in thought, we fled from the sea whole.
Dawn of thought transfered through moments of days undersearching earth
Revealing corridors of time provoking memories, disjointed but with purpose,
Craving penetrations offer links with the self instructors sharp
And tender love as we took to the air, a picture of distance.
Dawn of our power we amuse redescending as fast as misused
Expression, as only to teach love as to reveal passion chasing
Late into corners, and we danced from the ocean.
Dawn of love sent within us colours of awakening among the many
Won't to follow, only tunes of a different age.
As the links span our endless caresses for the freedom of life everlasting.

Talk to the sunlight caller
Soft summer mover distance mine.

Called out a tune but I never saw the face
Heard but not replaced
I ventured to talk, but I never lost my place
Cast out a spell rendered for the light of day
Lost in lights array
I ventured to see, as the sound began to play

What happened to this song we once knew so well
Signed promise for moments caught within the spell
I must have waited all my life for this
Moment moment

The future poised with the splendour just begun
The light we were as one
And crowded through the curtains of liquid into sun

And for a moment when our world had filled the skies
Magic turned our eyes
To feast on the treasure set for our strange device

What happened to wonders we once knew so well
Did we forget what happened surely we can tell
We must have waited all our lives for this
Moment moment moment

Starlight, movement, reasons
Release forward
Tallest rainbow
Sun shower seasons
Life flower reasons

They move fast, they tell me,
But I just can't believe that I can feel it
There's someone to tell you,
Amid the challenge we look around in unison with you

Getting over overhanging trees
Let them rape the forest
Thoughts would send our fusion
Clearly to be home

Getting over wars we do not mean
Or so it seems so clearly
Sheltered with our passion
Clearly to be home
They move fast, they tell me,
But I just can't believe they really mean to
There's someone, to tell you,
And I just can't believe our song will leave you
Skyline teacher
Warland seeker
Send out poison
Cast iron leader

And through the rhythm of moving slowly
Sent through the rhythm work out the story
Move over glory to sons of old fighters past.
Young christians see it from the beginning
Old people feel it, that's what they're saying.
Move over glory to sons of old fighters past.

They move fast, they tell me,
But I just can't believe they really mean to.
There's someone, to tell you
A course towards a universal season.

Getting over overhanging trees
Let them rape the forest
They might stand and leave them
Clearly to be home
Getting over wars we do not mean
We charm the movement suffers
Call out all our memories
Clearly to be home

We've moved fast
We need love
A part we offer is our only freedom

What happened to this song we once knew so well
Signed promise for moments caught within the spell
We must have waited all our lives for this
Moment moment

Past present movers moments we'll process the future, but only through him we know, send flowered rainbows
Apiece apart chased flowers of the dark and lights of songs to follow and show all we feel for and know of
Cast round
You seekers of the truth accepting that reason will relive and breath and hope and chase and love
For you and you and you.

Trivia questions:
1. Name this song
2. What group does this?
3. Who wrote?

Yes Keith Reid was...the band's lyricist, sage and historian and co-founder w/Gary Booker

back 2 my lyrics--I am now prepared 2 give 50 WGDs 2 whomever guesses all 4 questions right! I, personally, could do w/o the christian line, but even that makes u think a little bit--some of the best lyrics ever written by one of the best groups ever (whether the critical yahoos label them a "so-called Xtian rooted" group or not their message is always positive--something we could use alot more of in this world). This was the 1st song I ever heard by them live when they debuted this album at the New Haven Collesium in '73--and it completely blew me away!

I knew u were going 2 say that! And I almost got mad! But when a silly baby-face says googling--I totally lose it! :haha: Please try 2 use conventional methods 2 guess these questions--remember, unlike RL, I am incredibly rich here @ the Watch so don't bite the hand...there may b plenty of WGDs where those came from!

Which methods are convential? I'd say knowing or looking things up in one's own record collection are legal, googling or using any (lyrics-, music-)website aren't.

Come to think of it, kidnapping professional music critics and torturing them for information might be in a grey area. Gotta find my ninja suit ...
