Err, I kinda remember that in Bhrathairealm(God, I hope I spelled that right) that the afore mentioned tunic was torn somewhat by the weapons of the hustin and the others. :? Correct me if I'm wrong there.

Gee I guess he did wear a tunic  - but with as much as he went through, I'm sure that thing was in shreds or completely gone by the end of the whole mess.

As for the giants....despite the artwork. I couldn't get out it out of my head that they were really hefty. Did anyone see the cartoons with Jack and the Beanstalk? Or that old movie "Time Bandits". Kinda like that but on a smaller scale, twice the size of humans. All the pics I've seen of them are skinny versions of humans...but a skinny giant? Nah.

Err, there was Sevinhand, the Anchormaster of Stafefare's Gem. Didn't it mention that he was rather lean? Or something like that? :?

The Anchormaster was lean for a Giant, and his old face was engraved with an unGiantlike melancholy. In him, the characteristic cheer of his people had been eroded by an habitual grief.

Looks like ol' Sevinhand was the exception to the rule. Good catch tho, Lady Thea. :)

Ah, always ignore cover artists. None of the characters depicted should look like anything in your head - these people are yours (you help create them as you read, afterall), and don't let the 'man' dictate what you think. Fight the power! ;)

The Giants would have been muscular for the most part, simply because of their labours. In fact, every working person in the land (well, the vast majority of them) would have been well nourished and fit due to the way they lived their lives. Skinny? Nah.

From the OALDCE:
legging: outer covering, of leather or strong cloth, for the leg up to the knee, or (for small children) for the whole of the leg.

Your Flashdance images were closer than you might have thought. :)

To explain, Giants wear leathery-like pants, but the First wears stone-chain-mail stuff too. :)

Hail...just going to throw this out there...

Does anyone know where Haven Farm is? And the town? The only other name we have is "Righter's Creek". I picture it in Nebraska or Iowa or Kansas...someplace in the Heartland...

I don't think Donaldson has ever given an actual location...just wondering if anyone knew....

Peace,

Righter's Creek is more info than I have. Didn't even remember that bit.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

okay...I am NOT making Righter's Creek up..LOL...

Chapter 1 The Danger in Dreams, The Power That Preserves, pg 12:
...Whenever the penury of his resources threatened him, he gusted out of his house like a lost wind, and scudded through the hills for miles up and down the wooded length of Righters Creek...
SO THERE!!! :P :P :P :P

We've speculated, in other threads, that TC could have lived in Texas, Massacusetts, Ohio or Kentucky. Interesting that u mention Righter's Creek as all google searches point 2 Pennsbury, Pennsylvania--rural country south of Philadelphia. :?
