I answer when Summoned Warmark! But you must have the Staff of Law, the appropriate lore, and the summoning song...

Lord Foul said in LFB: "The wolves, urviles, Cavewights and other fell creatures ANSWER THE POWER OF THE STAFF [of Law]..."

Drool Rockworm summoned them with the power of the Staff of Law.

:P

OK, next question:

What was Liand's occupation in Mithil Stonedown?

Liand was a boring puppy dog that follows random strangers... :P
I have no idea, should reread runes i suppose.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.

Right: Why did Linden not bring large amounts of hurtloam, when Lord Foul first showed her a copious vein?

(if a vein can indeed be copious. Or should it be overflowing? Or copiously stocked? )

Linden didn't take any hurtloam with her because she didn't know how to tend it, and its virtue fades quickly.

Spot on MrKABC!

But, what I wonder is: How did she know of its fading virtues? Was it because she caught a glimpse of the fleeting quality due to her enlightening "first fix"? Or was she prescient in some way?

Are you referring to Linden's first encounter with hurtloam at the River? I'm not sure it even occured to her to take any with her.

she never got a chance to think that far ahead. Anele went apeshit bonkers as soon as she hurtloamed(?) him and then he's down the river. then liand shows up and they're on there way to mithil's plunge before you can say "why didn't she pick up more hurtloam?".
When I learned that the word 'decide' has the same latin root word as 'suicide' and genocide', I started making more choices.
