WOW Warmark and Drew!!! I didn't think ANYONE would get the answer to that question!!! I am IMPRESSED! :P

High Lord Elena told Covenant this while they were in the Hall of Gifts in TIW. The phrase was referenced again in PTP, but Elena wasn't credited - the sentence merely was, "Covenant remembered having heard it said that the Despiser would never be defeated as long as Ridjeck Thome still stood..."

OK... next question:

Brow Gnarlfist saved his ship, with Pitchwife's able assistance. How did he accomplish this, and at what cost?

He sealed the hole in the hull of the dromond with his chest, allowing Pitchwife to repair the breach. In so doing, Brow Gnarlfist was permanently bound to the ship, and he drowned.

dlbpharmd, you ROCK!!! Great job, and good answer.

OK...

Here is the next question:

Why did High Lord Prothall decide to let Birinair lead the Quest for the Staff of Law into Mount Thunder?

Because his lillianrill light would be harder than Prothall's Lords-fire for Drool to detect. 'Your light is quieter than mine,' said Prothall — after Birinair scorched his ears and eyebrows with sarcasm.
Without the Quest, our lives will be wasted.

Well MR K asked who Brow Gnarlfist was and How he Died...
Then drwe said He was Pitchwifes father in law...yadda-yadda-yadda, and that it was another example of someone sacrificing themselves for the greater good, and DlBPHARMD said that was a good observation..
tsk..tsk..how quickly we forget.

Whoops! Sorry about the Brow Gnarlfist repetition!! My bad...

VF is correct about Birinair insisting his light was "quieter" than High Lord Prothall's... Good one VF!!!

OK, on to a NEW question! <grinning>

Who was Ahanna daughter of Hanna, and what significant contribution did she make to the story(ies) even though we never saw her?

To elaborate further - Ahanna daughter of Hanna was one of the great artists of the Land. Murrin is correct in saying that Ahanna created the painting entitled "Lord Mhoram's Victory." I think, though, that the significant contribution that MrK is referring to is the aid she gave to Mhoram in deciphering the hidden meaning in Elena's marrowmeld bust of Covenant. This aid led Mhoram to the secret of the RoD, the defeat of Satansfist, the eschewing of Kevin's Lore - even the eventual rise of the Clave.
