Video Games!
Whelp, don't know where to begin...I love 'em! I'm thinking, if I win that writing contest--and there is a cash prize--I might buy a PS2. The only games I've played for the past two years have been all PC. Plus, I've been missing out on the Final Fantasy universe, having played only FF III (American III) and FF VII...
But anyway, some recommendations of what RPGs I should get, and I'll do fine. Currently, I'd say my favorite of all time would be Ultima Online... Tried to quit that game twice before, but couldn't stay gone. Was a role-player there...almost became Mayor of this town...beaten by one vote! But I'd be telling a literal saga if I got into my exploits there. I'd say my #2 game is Baldur's Gate II and its expansion, Throne of Bhaal. Then Half-Life--its graphics are still amazing to me.

I'm an RPG freak. When you get a PS2, get FF X. In fact, anything done by SquareSoft is good. Some good PS1 RPGs: Chrono Cross, Star Ocean 3, Lunar 2, The Breath of Fire series, even heard Dragon Warrior VII is out.
Speaking of Dragon Warrior, it looks like Unix and Square are merging, so we can finally get some more DragonQuest games as well as a Dragon Warrior/Final Fantasy crossover. That's right, chocobos and slimes in the same game.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I've decided I'll get FF VIII, IX, and X. I'm willing to be IX will be my favorite, looking at its style and knowing my tastes. Also going to get FF Chronicles, which has FF II and CHRONO TRIGGER! I *loved* that game with an abandon during the SNES games, but only rented it back then and never really cracked the story's surface/played it very long. Chrono Cross will come later. I believe I'm going to be strictly a Square guy for a while. If I'm going to spend my dough, spend it on a sure bet, I say.
I remember the reason that Square called it “Final Fantasy”. The irony of it makes me laugh, thinking of the franchise's immense success now.
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance will wait, I'm afraid, till I finish Throne of Bhaal. I hear they're totally different. That's expected, though, knowing the platform.

We have an N64 and a Gamecube. My kids are really into The Two Towers and Jedi Outcast these days, and sicko that I am, they are teaching me how to play Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee. I like to be Ghidra the 3 headed monster!
They also like the various Super Smash Brothers games.
We also have Game Boy Colors and the kids have Game Boy Advances. I'll probably break down and get myself one, too before our next long car trip.
My husband isn't into games, though I can coax him into playing a bit of mahjong on the computer every now and then. And now and then we'll talk him into using one of the Game Boys on a long car trip. When we do he usually plays a sports game.

OMG! I'm just gettinga ps2 too! First PSAnything I've ever had, so I'm not missing out on FF no more, heh....FFVIII roxXors!!!!!!!!! Yeah enoug of that...
I would recommend Okage on ps2....veeeerrrrry funny if you ask me, but I have the sense of humor of a 2 year old so.....yeah, ignore me.It is an RP albeit somewhat primitive if that's the word I'm looking for. Stay away from ICO. Completely drab. Yeah, only FF I'd played before ps2 was the one with Cecil...was that 2? 3? don't 'member....but you got to name your characters whatever you want...hehheh.....all of 'em...Just for the record: You know the chicobo you get in FF8? Mine's named Bannor......*ducks

IMHO Age of Conquerors is even better than Starcraft as an RTS. I'll agree with you Foul...Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal were both spectacular! I was a little disappointed with Neverwinter Nights and haven't picked up the expansion yet.
For Console I would have to say that Halo (which I played through on Co-op mode with a friend) was the best game ever. Great story, great gameplay, great graphics, tremendous execution.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. I played with great passion and regularity till the Mrs. Got mad. Since its release I played 3 to 7 times a week, and you can’t do anything else when you played... you have to focus, or a ghost will sneak in and nuke the hell out of you.
Anyway, the wife wanted some attention too, so in the effort to show her my devotion to her, I... *tears* I broke the CD... I need a tissue now...

I play the city building games on PC. I'm not very good with the controls on the PS2. Although my kids are experts at it. They have GTA Vice City and the new Matrix game to name a few. My husband has his sports games on PS2. We have also played House of the Dead on PC, Sims, Diablo.
The King has one more move.

Square is going to base Final Fantasy on Unix?Caer Sylvanus wrote:I'm an RPG freak. When you get a PS2, get FF X. In fact, anything done by SquareSoft is good. Some good PS1 RPGs: Chrono Cross, Star Ocean 3, Lunar 2, The Breath of Fire series, even heard Dragon Warrior VII is out.

I can only imagine the horror of trying to fight monsters armed with only a command line....
