The Wounded Rainbow and the Bright Children

Post by Damelon »

But while he labored, his children, his myriad bright children, found the rainbow and were filled with rejoiceing at it's beauty. Together, they climbed into the heavens and scampered happily up the bow, dancing gay dances across its colors. High on the span, they discovered the wound. But they did not understand it. Chorusing joy, they danced through the wound, and found themselves in our sky. This new unlighted world only gladdened them the more, and they spun through the sky until it sparkled with the glee of play.
Lord Foul's Bane, Chapter 11 The Unhomed

This thread is about astronomy. Anytime something interesting in the skies is happening, I'll try to mention it. Feel free also to add on as well.

Tonight Jupiter is close to the Moon. They are both near zenith early in the evening.

Does anyone know the dates of the good meteor showers in August this year? We'll be camping in northren Michigan for a couple of nights right on Lake Huron, and I'm really really hoping to get a ringside seat for a good sky show! :D

We'll be camping on the 7 & 8, so pretty close to the peak, and maybe the moon won't be quite so bright? :cross:
Hopefully it won't storm, either! :cross:

You can try! Since the Moon should set somewhat before sunrise on the 7th and 8th, you could get some meteor viewing in without it before sunrise. :) Meteor showers usually last a day or two though. May just be looking for strays.

I agree. Fantastic

It makes even this Giant-Raver feel small.
"We do not follow maps to buried treasure, and remember:X never, ever, marks the spot."
- Professor Henry Jones Jr.

"Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet."
