Re: SRD in Bellevue WA
Isn't the university bookstore in Seattle, in the U District?beanish wrote:No, he'll be appearing at the University Bookstore, which is a couple of blocks away from Bellevue Square. This dotard should be there.IrrationalSanity wrote:Where in Bellevue? Barney Nobles?
Regardless- Neener neener neener, he's making not one, but TWO appearances in my state! Maybe I'll say hi at both!

Re: SRD in Bellevue WA
The University Bookstore has branches in a few other locations - downtown Seattle for example. The Bellevue branch (2 blocks north of Bellevue Square) is where SRD will put in his appearance.

Actually, I think he does go there once a year for a convention. Fantastic ... something-or-other. I think it's in Ft. Lauderdale? But I don't know if it's something fans can normally get into. Never been there myself, but I remember him mentioning the trip (and it might have been in the Appearances section a couple years ago - I think he skipped it this year).Menolly wrote:*sigh*
I expect I'll never see him here in the Sunshine State. I mean, I would hook up with the Tampa contingent if he made a stop there, and that's a pretty good drive for me.
And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.

It's the International Association of the Fantastic in the Arts.Romeo wrote:Actually, I think he does go there once a year for a convention. Fantastic ... something-or-other. I think it's in Ft. I thought about going last year, but that's about as far as I got. I think it's a scholarly conference as opposed to a fan-type thing. The next one is March 2008 in Orlando, according to their website.

So you have to be a member and submit a paper to attend?
Thanks for posting the link, ali. Orlando's a third the distance to Fort Lauderdale, but I could have stayed at FIL's 20 minutes from the hotel in Fort Lauderdale.
If it is announced SRD will be attending, I am all for that, even if I can't get into any of the conference.

*blush*
I edited, as I originally sent before I saw your post, dlb.
Who's closer to Orlando, the Tampa contingent or me? Or do we have a Watcher even closer? If y'all don't mind a 90 minute drive, and we don't all show up on a Thursday (FIL goes to his house midstate Tuesdays through Thursdays), I can probably offer FIL's as a meeting/ camping place (the house is on a half acre, so there's plenty of space), even though it's pretty run down from the damage from the three hurricanes a few summers ago.

I don't think you *have* to submit a paper. I think they put that first so that they'll get people to write 'em. Last year, it looked like college kids (grad students in lit, maybe?) wrote a lot of them. I'm pretty sure there was a book signing/author discussion thingum too, tho.

Bah. The Orlando conference is during the girls' spring break. Dunno if I could come or not.

Just a quick note:
Fantasy Writer Stephen Donaldson coming to Kent State University, Kent Ohio (and WKSU) on 10/21/2008.
10 a.m. Dr. Stephen Donaldson arrives at WKSU for recording
Noon Lunch at Williamson Alumni Center (limited guest list)
1:30 p.m. Meet with NEOMFA and English students at Kent State - Satterfield Hall (location TBD)
3 p.m. Meet with Cara Gilgenbach at Kent’s Department of Special Collections and Archives (12th floor library)
4 p.m. Private reception with Donaldson’s Master’s thesis advisor (retired KSU professor Dr. Ewbank)
He has been giving his papers to Kent State University’s Department of Special Collections and Archives for many years; in fact, Special Collections has 26 boxes of his papers, including original manuscripts.
I've no classes scheduled this day, and am hopeful to drive up to Kent and meet with Stephen at 1:30
Cheers,
Silverleaf
