Covenant and mIRC

Post by Worm of Despite »

I was thinking, there is a place on the Net where they schedule in-depth LOTR discussions and such, called "Barliman's" or whatever. A chat room on mIRC. A good 30-40 people spend an hour or so discussing all the intricacies of a certain chapter or characters or "Do balrog's have wings"? Was wondering if we could collect our power and orchestrate such an endeavor: sort of like a live version of "Dissecting the Land"! Anybody up for it? Could be a weekly thing--every Sunday or something!

I've owned the nick Foamfollower on mIRC for a few years. I'm here because Sylvanus saw me in the philosophy chatroom and told me about this site. (Now you know who to blame!)

I also own the Revelstone chatroom there. (As well as Roke and Taoism.) I'd be more than thrilled to finally have some visitors!! I've only had ONE in all the time I've had it. A very pleasant guy by the name of Ghola. :)

Actually, it might be better for me there, because I think the chatrooms here and at the Hangar are not very compatible with my computer.

You have to go to www.mirc.com/ and download the program. When you run the program, there are more than 10k chatrooms to choose from, and you can make your own any time you want. And you can register your nick and the rooms you create.

I shall proudly stay aloof from this. :drevil:

It only runs on Windows. :?

There are other IRC clients you can use if you're not running windows. I forgot what the linux and apple clients are called, but I know there's a slew of 'em.

Here's a brief rundown on how to work mIRC. After you've dl'd and ran the program, a window is going to pop up with the header "mIRC options" (if something else pops up asking you to register or whatever, just skip over it). To get to Fist's room on dalnet, either scroll down to find the closest dalnet server or just choose "random us dalnet server" which is at the very top. After you've connected (sometimes it can take a while), in your status window type "/join #revelstone". After you get that far, you can probably figure everything else out by talking to people or reading the help files.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

this sounds cool .. i started a chatroom called Revelstone on icq a couple of years ago .. but we didnt use it often enuff to keep it going .. it may even still be there? *shrug*

We should set a time like the Hangar's Sat Nite Live .. set-up .. and go for it!

I guess we'll have to come up with another time .. and someone clever enuff to work out the time diff's .. globally .. and post the details ..

<is not even clever enuff to work out SNL already .. or more accurately too lazy

Actually, other than the cloning-Fist problem and the not-letting-Duchess-out problem, I don't see why we can't use the Hangar's chatroom, or the one here, or High Lord Jay's? :?: That way Damelon can play with us, too. :)

Oh, that you definately did! When Danlo got back from the store I was nearly hyperventilating/having an asthma attack from laughing so hard -- I'm glad he got me calmed down! :D

Maybe next time Vain can stay longer and can figure out why you have so many clones and why I can't get out! :D
