Jordan is terminal, but he's still writing. See dragonmount.com for more on that.

. . . this is a rather LATE reply.

Thanks for the URL.

And let's all wish the Best of Health to SRD, GRRM and RJ, the writers we fervently hope won't die before finishing all the great books we've been reading!

Live Long and Prosper (I just made that up.)
but work very hard at writing. :whip:

That was a devastating passing - mostly for his family and loved ones, of course, but also for fantasy. Although I felt that RJ lost his way (he followed too many Stephen-King-Like tangents and his story became scattered), I always felt that his vision of the ending was solid, and thought that it would be a conclusion like nothing epic fantasy had ever seen.

Yes Cpl Lather,
RJ did = Robert Jordan. When I read burgs post, I was assuming my information that Jordan died had been wrong. Now I realize it was just an old post that was made when he was terminally ill!

(massive bump)

The white crows arrive early in A Clash Of Kings. But IIRC they not so much herald the coming of winter as the end of summer.
I'm rereading this now (I still haven't read Crows). You are correct: the white crows signaled the beginning of autumn, or the end of summer. During this time, everyone is starting to store a fifth of their harvest. They are now preparing for winter.
