Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People...very catchy song with a unique beat that's been bouncing around my head all day, a "Cowboy" song of course  always love songs with whistling in them, don't know why...

8O That is frakking brilliant.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

I've recognized over the last few years that some of my favorite musicians sound like Muppets, particularly Shane MacGowan who sounds a lot like the Mna Mna guy (also Dr. Teeth to a degree, as I'm sure it is the same voice actor), but I never identified Tom Waits with Cookie Monster, and it matches exactly. Amazing mouth flap matching on that video. Brilliant.

To be honest I've never heard any Tom Waits before; this one was linked on Elizabeth Bear's LJ, and it was just so well done I had to share.

Tom Waits is fantastic, but it took me quite a few years of having heard of him and hearing bits and pieces to finally fall for him. There was some Night Flight video profile of him I saw one night in the 80's or early 90's that finally won me over. I picked up Bone Machine that was a bit of a rude shock to his style, but later picked up a bootleg that I listened to in a record store I worked at that really did the trick for me (a live concert that must have been recorded around the time of Small Change). Small Change is probably an easier place to start, if you are interested. It's more of his stew bum days, and tends to run a little randy, but is fantastic. Then he gets into a phase later on that seems influenced by Kurt Weill as well as making noise on whatever he can make noise on that he's never quite shaken since. But you see the old days now and again. Mule Variations is probably the best combination of the two sounds, although it was late in the noisy part of his career, as well as Rain Dogs which was near the beginning of the change in sound, although I think Swordfishtrombone was the first in the change. He did hit a period with heavy orchestral string backing that I have never grown to love though. There's almost no sign of that period around now, thankfully, although some people say one of his best albums came out of that period (Heart Attack And Vine), but I disagree.
