GotM Covers

Post by Sorus »

My copy has the first cover. I have the UK versions of House of Chains and Midnight Tides, which come with pictures of the covers of the previous books. I've been trying to figure out who the guy on the UK cover is supposed to be - any guesses?

is the uk cover the big one, Captain?

the small one i've always thought was Paran and Lorn.

the big one, i can't see enough detail but it's a sword he's holding? yes?

if he has white hair it's Rake, if not...Paran, i'd say. just guessing tho.

(assuming, like Luc, your refering to the big one in the middle)Looks to me like it's during or just after the Mage Cabal fought Rake outside Pale. If that's the case i would say it's Tattersail or High Mage Tayschrenn. However, I cant remember if either of them was known to carry a sword.

Sword carriers in the GOTM from memory include Rake, Lorn and Paran.

Edit: The top one in yours Luc would be Felisin and Leoman IMO.

right. that's what i was doin too tazz, counting the sword carriers in GotM.

i don't think a picture of Rake's sword would look like this.

that's why i'm guessin Paran. IF, that is, it's really indicative of anybody.

you think Felisin? probably...yeah...Leoman.

Yeah, this was going to be the US Deadhouse Gates cover, but the fans reacted badly to it. After a while, they pulled it completely and used Steve Stone's original cover.

Here's the Memories of Ice cover, for completeness:

Notes: The rapier on Stonni's hip was clearly added on after someone pointed out that she doesn't use a sword like the one she carries here. The swords carried by Gruntle were straight in an older version - they were edited after fans complained that his swords were curved cutlasses. Still, I never pictured either of them like this, but it's not too bad. And at least the scene is instantly recognisable.

Dammit. It was working earlier, but apparently now it tries to redirect somewhere else.

Memories of Ice must be Gruntle and Stonny and appears to be their defense of the roof in Capustan.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Yeah. Though I don't particularly like the representation, I like that the scene is full of little details that you can recognise: the Child's Standard, the building with the shield over it in the background. I suspect the inclusion of the bird points to it being a very specific scene, but don't want to mention too many details in this topic.
