KW ANTHOLOGY II: CONTRIBUTOR'S GUIDE
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND DEADLINE DATE
1. All submissions will be approved by the selection committee before inclusion to the Anthology and sent on to editing. Selections will be emailed to a special account that can be accessed by all members of the selection team.
2. In order to complete the Anthology in a timely manner all submissions must be sent in before the deadline date (9-5-06). Special requests for extensions will be accepted.
3. Limitations: Stories & poems should not exceed a maximum of 20,000 words. Graphic fiction should not exceed a maximum of 20 full pages, images should be scanned to a resolution of a minimum of 300dpi for clarity and quality.
4. The selection committee should be comprised of no less than 3 members unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
5. Participating authors may not serve on the selection committee.
6. The number of submissions per author is unlimited (flooding the selection team with entries is discouraged) however a limit of only one feature length story, including graphic stories, will be selected unless circumstances dictate that this guideline be waived. A maximum of 3 common length poems (1 to 3 pages) will be chosen per author however exceptions can be made by special request.
7. Any genre story or poem can be submitted though it is assumed that most of us, being SRD fans, will likely lean toward science fiction / fantasy.
8. Due to copyright issues we are unable to accept any form of fan fiction. All entries must be original and the story, poem or graphic fiction content must be wholly owned by the individual author.
All submissions should be sent as attachments to KWAnthology@gmail.com
There you have it. Let me know if I’ve overlooked anything.

my last question is one of subject. do the submissions have subject criteria...for example...must it be sci-fi or fantasy in nature?
because i have lots of material i could submit but have never written sci-fi or fantasy. (tho i'd like to try) so i need to know if that's the criteria so if i need to write something new i can get started.
i'm blathering.
does it have to be sci-fi or fantasy?

Luci, Just added point 7 which states "Any genre story or poem can be submitted though it is assumed that most of us, being SRD fans, will likely lean toward science fiction / fantasy. "
A very good question.

After working on the first Anthology I came to realize that the size of any story whether it is very long or very short is a matter of artistic and creative intent. Though I would find a half page, one paragraph story to be exceedingly small, if said story managed to get its point across with an economy of words then who am I to reject it?Murrin wrote:a) Should there be a minimum word count, and b) if not, would very short stuff--flash fiction-size, <1000 words--still be taken on a one story per author basis?
As to the second point if an author submits a number of very short stories I believe it would be permissable to include more than one.

Sounds good to me, Tom.
Also, I think it should be made clear that only whole stories will be accepted (no unfinished or partial stories), with the exception perhaps of sequels/prequels to stories previously published in an anthology by the author.
I would also suggest that stories set in the same universe as another story (of the author's own creation) not in the previous anthology should be accepted but only if it can be read and understood by itself, and does not require any external reading to understand it.

Those are both good points. I hadn't considered either. Thats why multiple heads are better than one.James wrote:Sounds good to me, Tom.

hmmm...about sequels. I was going to polish up Brae, which is a sequel to The Creed. For the most part, it can stand on it's own, but the ending...well, not sure that can. I would like to submit it for Anthology II, but I'm not positive people will really know what is going on at the end if they haven't read The Creed...
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

I've found that authors are their own worst critics. Don't be so certain that your entry will be rejected.sgtnull wrote:and this is a serious question. if rejected (and i'm certain i will be) will it be a form or will some advice be offered. i have no idea what is in the first anthology, what you are looking for or if anyone would be interested in anything i write anyway.
We're looking for whatever you have in mind.
I have heard that Authors that had entries rejected from the first Anthology were given reasons and advice in some cases.

There is no prohibition regarding collaboration just so long as all the collaborating authors are given appropriate credit.Lucimay wrote:what about collaborative efforts? any rules about that?

Furls, having a sequel to the Creed in the second Anthology would be terrific. As to Brae standing on its own, I suppose that would be a judgement call for the selection team. I don't see that it would be a problem.Furls Fire wrote:hmmm...about sequels. I was going to polish up Brae, which is a sequel to The Creed. Yes, you should go ahead and submit, Sergeant. You might be surprised.aTOMiC wrote:I've found that authors are their own worst critics. With regard to rejection feedback: Last time, there was just a list of those accepted, but anyone who requested an explanation of the reasons for their rejection got one by PM.

Thats a shame, Bub. Remember you have months. If time and inspiration strikes, even in the eleventh hour, feel free to submit. Won't be the same without choo.Loremaster wrote:Due to obligations to my novel, I am unable to submit a story for the second anthology.

I got rejected last time and asked for some feedback to know better in the future what I did wrong. I never got any feedback. I want to submit again, but without knowing what was wrong the first time, I am hesitant to do it again.
