Crucifixion is torture - and while the f*#&er may deserve it, states absolutely should not have the right to dole out punishments of this magnitude. (Especially corrupt states like Saudi Arabia)Life and Death is not a power that any state has proven itself competent to wield. (Especially our own...

Behind Obama's Berlin Wall snub. In his first year in office, Barack Obama has visited more foreign countries than any other president. He's touched ground in 16 countries, easily outpacing Bill Clinton (three) and George W. Bush (eleven). It's an itinerary befitting a "citizen of the world.&q...

Finally caught up with season 4. Phenomenal! John Lithgow was an inspired choice for a quest star this season, and there was a great surprise mid season. How in the hell is it that a deranged serial murderer is the most endearing and emotionally engaging character on television? This is one of those...

meh. her character is kind of a retard, which prevents me from finding her particularly attractive.

I don't have showtime :( so I'm stuck avoiding season 4 like the plague until I can hack it- I mean buy the DVDS!

Good points Tjol. And to add to the mix...I've always wondered why the guys end up being charged for rape due to the ambiguity of consent by a drunk female, when the fella was drunk too. How can either of them really be said to be responsible for consent then? That said, we can't pretend as if into...

(Oh, and to the xenophobes - immigration and outsourcing may have some impact on YOU, but it's not bad for the economy. In fact, overall it makes a whole lot of people's lives better, they are just brown and don't speak the same language as you. Globalization is happening, it's the future, and trad...

Also, we're not talking about your (or anyone's) personal spending power. We're talking about an national average wage that has remained fairly stagnant, when indexed for inflation, or even gone down. Cail, I can't tell if you are disagreeing with me, or agreeing from the other side of the argument...

I kinda get disliking Wes Anderson. He's got an extremely distinctive but quirky style that you kind have to attune yourself to. I think he's a genius. His movies are comedies of detail, so wry someone could watch one and almost not realize it was supposed to be funny.

Please understand I was being more than a little tongue in cheek. But there are a LOT of people out there who hold contrarian opinions just for the sake of being contrary. (Try anyone that believes in a conspiracy theory) It makes people feel smart, like they have special knowledge that no one else ...

I have an ingrained contempt of Bureaucratic BS that runs so deep I am completely incapable of caring about it. Even at the risk of my job and discipline, if a policy defies rational logic, I cheerfully ignore it. Perspective is a nice thing to have, until you have to work under someone who has comp...

Vertigo is his best movie IMO. It and Rear Window are absolute MUST WATCH movies. I'm glad to see someone appreciate Lumet, I have always felt it kind of tragic how he has been eclipsed by the likes of Spielberg, Coppola, and Kubrick. He definitely belongs on any list that includes the 4 of them. To...

There are two excuses for not liking the Beatles. -You haven't given them a proper chance- They did SO much between Please Me and Abbey Road, In 6 years they showed just how enormously elastic guitar rock could be, and crafted some of the balsiest, catchiest, prettyiest pop songs ever recorded. No m...

Don't expect another Soft Bulletin, this new version of the lips sounds more like a post-punk act like Joy Division or Bauhaus than their usual sound. But they add to that dark, bass heavy pounding a kind of aural magnificence that is unmistakably lipsian. Wayne is WAY lower than usual, singing abou...

News in Oz this morning was that JJ Abrams is having lunch with William Shatner with a view to finding some part in the next Star Trek movie due out in 2011. How they will incorporate him? There cannot be an easy way as he will not resemble a Kirk prior to him 'dying' and he should not have aged in...

Re: Happy Birthday

John Lennon would be 69 today... Ah well. He was just getting back into music, and unlike McCartney, I think he would've produced some stellar stuff in the 80s, 90s and now. Hard to believe almost four years before my birth he existed, and we still live in a time when Beatles are alive. To me it's ...

Actually, the guy had 2 guns, and both did not fire (seems the powder was just wet enough). Jackson did attack him, not sure about beating him senseless tho. Hey, the book, 'American Lion', guess is a good description. BTW, it was the 2nd attack against Jackson, the first 2 in history of US. Talk a...

Was that the assassination attempt where the man's gun misfired, and Jackson beat him senseless with his own cane?

God, that man was freaking crazy.
