Several things come to mind as I think about why the Land doesn't see technological progress: 1) Isolation--The Land is basically off the beaten path. If it is as far from other civilized areas as the Americas were from Eurasia and Africa, it's quite realistic for no one to have stumbled on it excep...

My own opinion is that for a book to break into the 11-20 range on the NYT bestseller list is nothing to sneeze at, and that sales will likely pick up somewhat as we head into the Christmas season and copies get purchased to give as gifts. Given that I don't think any of the GAP books scored even th...

I was very impressed with the whole series, and in many ways the ending is one of the most powerful I've ever read. Yeah, I can understand how some folks would hate it, but not me. This is also in some ways the most open ending I've ever seen. What does the Horn of Eld mean, really? My take is that...

I look at it this way-- Something like Kevin's Dirt couldn't happen with the Staff of Law in play. But it did happen. Ergo, it's pretty logical for Linden to conclude the Staff is already out of action in her time. Since things did not, in fact, change in any meaningful way on her return to the 'pre...

I think Liand's basic role in all this is to give the perspective of the 'ordinary' person of the land. Likely, he will eventually become the seed for whatever is set in place to take up Earthguardianship once all is over. Assuming the world isn't destroyed, which some things would seem to indicate :)

What Should Hile Troy Have Done?
It's quite clear that Hile chose the wrong plan to try to fight the Despiser. So what should he have done? If he had a proper attitude instead of being very overconfident, what should Hile have done? Thinking about it, I can't really think of too many strategies available, given the resources he had...

Re: WGW: CH 15 Enactors of Desecration by A Gunslinger
He tells her of their kinship in the fact that they are two victims and enactors of despite. As such she MUST heed him. He tells Linden Avery, Sun-Sage, and Proover of Life that she MUST end TC's mad intent. That she MUST prevent TC from destroying all the Land. She must in fact slay TC, as it is T...

:goodpost: That's a thought-provoking idea, Lord Wombat. It might be crazy enough to be true! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us...and welcome to the Watch! Thanks. I've lurked here, off and on, for quite a while, but I finally registered when I was hit by an idea I just had to share with som...

Some Speculation on the Metaphysics of the Land's Reality
I've been lurking a while, reading things, and just finished a re-read of the Chronicles in anticipation of picking up Runes of the Earth at Christmas time. Or earlier if my will breaks and I forgo some food. ^^;; Anyway, I was thinking about the various evidence for whether the Land is real or a dr...
