something broken

"THe only way to really hurt someone is to give him back something broken." -from "The Wounded Land" book 1 in the last good chronicles of Thomas Covenant With the new series, I have been hurt: I loved the TC books as if they were the best joy, and yet now I have read "Runes...

Just sold it, and I'm not looking back!

I just sold my copy of "Runes of the Earth": its unbearable to see such a great series become so ordinary... I will not lay out another penny for any new Covenant series book. I feel the way I did when I picked up some of the new "Dune, House xyz" books: they are a big let-down f...

opposites are what make it fun

"Let me say to you one thing further, and I risk much in saying this. When you come to the crux and you stand before the Despiser, Remember the paradox of White Gold For there is hope in contradiction" - Lord Morham's shade in Andelain "And he who holds the White Gold is a paradox For...

Look carefully at what was said there. The two reviewers are not contradictory. One writes that new peoples and characters and not introduced. The other is talking about the style of the writing, and how poorly it compares with what was presented in previous books (He compared White Gold Weilder wit...

more from an amazon dot com reviewer: "The largest pain I had with this story - and it was almost a physical pain on the eyes - was the way the story was told. Donaldson has spent the last several books writing in the first person. That first person narrative came over into the third person nar...

re-printing the best amazon review...

Well, this might be considered "unfair" or a mortal sin, or something else, but I am simply going to quote here a review someone posted on Amazon dot com regarding the book, with expresses my own reactions also: "Let me start by saying that I disagree that this would be a good book fo...

I for one, never expected to see TC again...

I for one, never expected to see TC again... I accept death and I thought that what happened was essential to the second chronicles and I am happy even without TC. Further, Linden's self-examination is also just fine with me and I would not have it any other way. Neither of these is my beef with the...

Protect Covenant from SRD!

The story here has none of the flow and seeming inevitability of the past stories. I did enjoy the description of Linden's new life, and I was very happy for her adoption of a son. However, there was essentially nothing original in terms of the characters and even the overall situation. The new thre...

a raver, right?

In the very beginning of TWL, a character named "Marid" was possessed by a raver and then killed Nassic, Sunder's daddy.

Wasn't Marid's body very hot to the touch?

To me, I thought that the scalding body meant raver-possession.

stone and sea!

In my last post, I was trying to list some great sayings, and then
(Stone and Sea!) I realized I forgot

"Stone and Sea are deep in life
Two unalterable
Symbols of permanance"

thanks for your good welcome

Dear people: Your welcome honors me. One of my favorite ideas from Covenant is: "acceptance of a gift brings honor to the giver." I have quoted from the Covenant series in dealing with friends on various occaisions. "Courtesy is like a drink from a mountain stream" Lots of wonder...
