aliantha, He DID mention (as soon as he found out from overhearing Triock) that he was really disappointed that the hurtloam had "retreated" and could not heal him. So his sense of touch was not restored like before. He did mention something about his senses being truncated... (why can't I...

Skyweir, EXACTLY! Note that Hile Troy did spout wild magic on Gallows Howe, but I think SRD put him in the Land to show us that TC was chosen for who he is. HT was one of those people who automatically take responsibility to show that he appreciates the acceptance he got in their community (the Land...

Amanibhavam, great insight! I never thought of it that way before. What I still don't get is "how" it happens. In LFB, Covenant is aware to some degree of the health of the Land and others immediately. BUT in Chapter 9, Jehannum , (page 127 in my RED paperback): With an intuitive leap, he ...

Right, which leads us to believe that the metaphysical laws of existence in the two Earths are different. Back to Amber, the gunpowder itself didn't changed, but the shadow (read alternate universe) that it was currently in gave it different properties. Without changing a molecule of the gunpowder. ...

The properties of gold in our Earth are radically different than in the Land's Earth. An analogy might be in Zelazny's Amber. Gunpowder was inert in some shadows of Amber (you could throw it in fire and nothing would happen), but it was volitile in others (like ours). Gold is special there. I'd thin...

Insofar as creating an alloy... In our Earth, gold is just a metal, not a periapt of power. In the Land's Earth, gold is something else entirely.

Can you imagine trying to melt gold there?!?!?!

I joined this one kind of late... Foul is not bound to the Land, but I like hamako's thought about it being beautiful and better to ruin than a dustball. In WGW, Foul's ambition is that the Land would be kept fair and made diseased to the core. The Sunbane itself needed to conquer the Land before it...

My thanks to both of you, Skyweir and dennisap! If you like that, how's this? The link between the Lore and the RoD is passion. Treating the Lore as some kind of tool, misses the heart of it. All power arises from our inmost passions, else it's just going thru the motions. We need to engage our hear...

As far as the AoT and the Worm, I agree that Foul couldn't care less about the destruction of the Earth within the Aot, but he needed to break it in order to get out. I am beginning to think that Findail had an insight that Foul didn't. Foul perhaps assumed that "broke is broke" and when t...

One other theme here is that any "extreme" is undesirable. Absolute anything is bad. Absolute service, Absolute perfection (like LF). That's one of the paradoxes of being human. We can't be absolutely anything. We do good things sometimes, other times we fail. We can't achieve the paradox ...

Kasreyn, I think the problem Findail had with TC using the ring is that in TC's defensive blasts of wild magic to save himself from the Worm, he would use SO much wild magic that the AoT couldn't contain the battle and he would break it. This would cause the destruction of everything within it. i.e....

Skyweir, In WGW, Chapter 2, Leper's Ground (page 28 in my paperback edition) Findail is answering LA's and TC's questions in his cabin as he recovers from his failure at the One Tree. Findail is speaking "This Despiser is not mad. Should he rouse the Worm himself, without the wild magic in his ...

I am still confused. The granting is irrelevant. All I meant was is being a Sun-Sage inherent in Linden Avery by virtue of being a doctor or is it inherent in every doctor? Wild magic is a tool of the holder. It is a particular expression of a person's inner passion or power. I agree there's no ques...

Mhoram, Who "grants" Linden the power as the Sun-Sage? Are you saying that just any doctor would do or that only she could ever be the Sun-Sage? About TC seeing the Land's beauty, that is true, he could see it from the start, but this concept of seeing health (inside a person), feeling vit...

Attuning your senses to the Land

In LFB, when TC first uses the ring "to break the storm" with Atiaran, immediately thereafter, his senses become "attuned" to the Land. Before that, he describes being able to see the health of the Land, but after this incident WOW! it hits him big time. Why? If it's a matter of ...

That's true about the Elohim, but I remember that TC thought that in the Cave of the One Tree that Foul wanted him to break the AoT. Later Findail says that Foul would also perish if he did not hold the white gold in his hand. So then the AoT breaks, everyone inside dies? Suddenly "immortals&qu...
