For example, you complained that her fault was single-mindedness, with no reference to any material to back up the claim. When I referenced the material that showed her to be not single-minded, you changed your argument to her taking too many risks, with no reference to any material to back up the ...

WF, I wasn't arguing that the Staff was unnecessary (in fact, I was never arguing that point, even in the original thread). I was merely saying that SRD's reasoning for getting the Staff was because the ring is inherently uncontrollable and too powerful. Sniper rifle instead of nuclear bomb. But he...

But . . .
. . . why does she need power, if not to use it? I would contend that it IS dangerous to set out to simply acquire as much power as possible before thinking about what to do with it or how to use it. Particularly if the acquisition of one such 'power' (Covenant) could potentially cause a lot of dama...

It seems to me that bringing Covenant back to life was so inherently risky that it should have been Linden's last resort. Perhaps I'm missing something in the text, but at this point in the story Linden seems to have many other courses to choose: the Insequent, the orcrest, the new power of the Staf...

It seems obvious to me that using white gold and Law at the same time was a risk; most of the Second Chronicles was predicated on the danger of too MUCH power rather than too little. And Covenant chose his role as the 'Timewarden', and presumably it's quite an important one. Yet Linden still uses bo...

You know, I think it was simply Linden's desire to give ...ANY chance ...a chance...IF there was a chance it had something to do with her son Jeremiah...no matter what, or how it looked. And of course. it did have something to do with him....I DO believe she would have reacted more violently at tim...

Newbie first impressions . . .
. . . I've always loved the TC books and would probably rate The Illearth War as my favourite novel. I've just finished FR and I think it comes close to TIW in my estimation. The time travel aspect is problematic but then, isn't it always? SRD has earned a bit of slack from his readers and I'm letti...

I understood from that passage that Stave was referring to himself and Linden. Could be, I agree. Stave's words are: 'Only Bloodguard witnessed the final murder of the Unhomed while it was yet fresh in cruelty. Only Bloodguard saw the outcome of their terrible despair.' 'The Ramen cannot know how t...

Are you saying that Linden didn't actually go to the Land? If it was only in TC's head how did she possibly have memories of the occurences there? If it's all in TC's head then there are plenty of logic holes that are on a scale far beyond Covenant. As an after thought, might I point out that befor...

Well, being an impatient fool, I haven't yet even finished Runes, so I'm reluctant to start speculating! But it seems the obvious 'idea' behind the Prologue is that the people or 'gods' of the Land are infiltrating the 'real world', either directly or via a sort of possession. Roger seems clearly (a...

I wonder if the differing writing style turned a lot of SRD fans off Mordant's Need. There's no doubt that it's deliberately less 'wordy', less literary - and for me the richness of the Land is directly related to the richness of SRD's prose. He's said before that he 'sees' in words - so for me, the...

As somebody with a very close relationship to a rape victim, I can say that I wasn't disgusted or repelled by Covenant's crime. What strikes me about rape is the disparity between act and consequence - it can be committed so quickly and spontaneously, but the victim may never recover. The depiction ...

I am in love with SRD's ideas about fantasy - that a fantasy landscape is a reflection of character - so I also prefer to see Hile Troy as in some way an aspect of Covenant, rather than someone summoned to the Land by mistake. In fact I prefer to think of the Land as inside Covenant's head - though ...

Hey all - I've lurked around here a few times so I'd better show my face. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post, but I'm a huge fan of SRD and have been ever since my Mum bought me a copy of 'The Power that Preserves' when I was ten. I know - but she meant well, and I read the other two First C...

Jeremiah
Okay, first post . . . long time SRD fan, have read everything, am just starting our on Runes.
I apologise in advance because this question has, I am positive, been asked a hundred hundred times already. But.
Are we thinking Jeremiah is the Creator incarnated?
