I can recommend Tamsyn Muir's Gideon the Ninth. Foul-mouthed female fighters and necromancers in space.

I'm in two minds about this book, honestly. I liked the overall concept but found it a difficult read.

I've been on a Charles Stross spree these last months, reading The Laundry Files books, now in book 5, The Rhesus Chart. They are fun combos of IT nerdiness/office humour/spy novel/Lovecraftian horror.

And a little further into Tomb Raider, I'm not really enjoying the frequent QTEs that result in a graphic death scene if you miss one button press. In one of them Lara is actually shot in the head right on screen... I saw a compilation of Tomb Raider death scenes on Youtube and several are overly g...

Wow, I just finished Embassytown tonight. What an amazing book, this is the stuff that makes me love science fiction. He simply throws you into a world, without explanation or exposition, and lets you find your way. I felt like again like when I first read Wolfe's first Book of the New Sun novel, wh...

Yup. Probably gonna rewatch some of it.

I feel comfortably smug that I totally called the (almost) last scene,
Spoiler
Liv and Peter with Etta on the grass, this time without the Observers arriving
early on in the season. Quite predictable, but I still feel the need to brag a little. ;-)

From the wikipedia article it sounds like the 20-book series is a major rewrite, with the final book expanded dramatically, two new books at the start, and everything else revised & split up into multiple volumes. This really sucks. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to make sure I only buy the...

Well it actually ended after book eight. By then I'd had my fill.

Haven't read anything for a while and wanted something to put my teeth in...so re-reading Time by Stephen Baxter. The hard science is mostly way over my head, but I like the big ideas.

Given the title of this last episode.... Peter's the first Observer. Etta doesn't exist in any other timeline, so he can't do what Walter did to him. So he'll go back to "fix" things. Law of Unintended Consequences being what it is...... Or not. This show is so well-written that I think i...

Yeah its good, with some serieus 'Whoa' moments in the last two episodes. I expect the series is going to end like this (spoilers for last two episodes!): Olivia and Peter will go back in time/reset history to when Etta was small, maybe even to that 'parkland scene' shown in one of the eps, but this...

I think it's fine there's only a limited number of eps to finish it. That means they have to get down to business and not waste time with too many MOTW shows. What I do not like is how the whole 'parallel worlds' thing has been dropped for an obvious emergency finale to the series. I suspect the wri...

Going to see Flying Colors (Portnoy, Morse, LaRue, McPherson) tonight, yay! And apparently they will be recording for a Blu-Ray and DVD as well.
