Interesting he thought that about the use of a ring, because when I think of Tolkien (whose LOTR belongs #1 on the list although I consider TC superior in almost every way), the first thing I think of is that he stole the ring idea from Wagner's operas. And Wagner stole it from German mythology. So ...

Much as I love Mhoram, I think the answer to this question is Foamfollower. Not "best" character or "most powerful" character, but "charismatic". The whole point of the Giants in general, and Foamfollower specifically, is charisma.

That's interesting that so many people agree on Coercri in TWL. I see it as the feel-good resolution of the story thread that started with Korik's Mission to Seareach and continued through Tull's Tale. To me, it's almost like SRD felt that this was one terrible event from The First Chronicles that w...

Favorite Chapters?

I have 2, both from the first chronicles: 1. Tull's Tale 2. Lord Mhoram's Victory I am basing this on the emotional response I got from reading the books the second time. These two chapters impacted me the most, albeit in drastically different ways. The former I consider to be the darkest, most dist...

Actually, we were hoping to get people to start new characters, with TC names. Sort of a fresh start. Balnazar is US, but we could maybe do a Euro one if that's what is necessary.

Consider this bother number one... I mentioned it to a few friends and we all now want shirts that say "Melenkurion Abatha". Have you considered a poll or something to see how many people are interested in a particular shirt to see whether it is worth the bother?

TCTC Guild in World of Warcraft - Melenkurion Abatha

A friend and I are creating a new guild in WoW called Melenkurion Abatha. We are hoping to find some other TCTC fans who are interested in being founding members. It will most likely be an Alliance guild on the Balnazar realm, although we are somewhat open to suggestions. Anyone interested?

Melenkurion Abatha

Apologies if this is an inappropriate thread for these forums. Does anyone play World of Warcraft and would anyone be interested in being a founding member of a guild based on TCTC? A friend and I are going to create a guild named "Melenkurion Abatha". His name is Turiya and mine is Kinsla...

FWIW, I would really like to see (and would buy) a tee that read "Melenkurion Abatha!" I think it is the quintessential Land quote.

Just curious...which decisions? I never thought of Brinn being much a decider, but perhaps I just don't remember well enough.

I might also add that Bannor had a chapter written from his POV. IIRC Brinn did not. Bannor was more involved in the plot of the first chronicles than Brinn ever was in the second, IMO.

(Nearly wrote 'rent' there  might've changed the meaning somewhat!)

(Which one was rent then?)
Would have been samadhi since he was Gibbon.

Bannor or Brinn

Personal preferences? Mine is unquestionably Bannor, and not just because the name "Brinn" seems feminine to me. I liked the relationship Bannor had with TC much better. Much better to fight for someone's respect rather than inherit it. I sometimes imagine TC thinking "what does Banno...

Top 3 "Dude, that's Messed Up" Moments

There are many scenes in the chronicles that made me react with "Dude, that's messed up". Here are my top 3 (pardons on any misquotes, I do not have the books here for reference): 1. "Tull's Tale". Pretty much beginning to end, but the most haunting line for me was Mhoram's last:...

Thanks for the comments, all. I had a feeling it was samadhi Sheol who possessed Gibbon, because I always thought of him as being the most powerful. That is interesting that others found them interchangeable, because I always felt that in many cases SRD put much thought into which did what. For exam...

Let's hear it for Ravers

New to the site...and very pleased to see an active community discussing the best fantasy series of all time. A friend is reading the First Chronicles for the first time, and discussions with him bring the memories rushing back. He really likes the Ravers, and I don't disagree. I'm curious how The W...
