Terisa became very perceptive (*) but isn't she underestimating the Domnes here? If they could bridge the divide with Nyle once they understood everything, how couldn't they heal Geraden no matter how awkwardly the truth was told? (*) actually Terisa was always exceptionally perceptive. She just did...

We could speculate on whether Covenant's Unbelief was strengthened or mitigated by encountering all these people in the Land who spoke archaic English sprinkled with obscure words. Covenant was a pulp fantasy writer. He'd expect the fancy words and made-up terms. We must assume from his insistence ...

In my imagination the denizens of the Land bury their dead in unmarked graves where they will nourish the Land with their bodies. The Old Lords and their people originated from Berek's homeland south of the Land. Burning bodies might be a holdover from that culture. Going out in a blaze of glory wou...

AFAICT the Lords had no moral imperative to not heal people who refused their aid. This was dramatically illustrated by their attempt to cure dhukka at the beginning of TIW. They did what they believed a hale and whole Dhukka would want. Theoretically a pre-leprosy or a unleproused Thomas Covenant ...

If Thomas Covenant arrived while dying, he'd make the same arguments he did in the canon version. He'd insist there was still time to save the girl no matter how unlikely. If they then tried to send him back and failed (because he was already dead) he'd go into denial. I can see him acting more and ...

Hmm. The drawing is quite good actually. The forced smile/sneer looked like a hare lip (or zombie disfigurement) to me though. Maybe because both sides of the mouth are turned down and the cheeks aren't lifted (though starvation might mess that.) I like the eyebrows and wrinkles between them. Fit Co...

I suppose you might, Cord Hurn but desert climate is extremely hot at day and extremely cold at night in both winter and summer. Not sure about how the sea affect this though hopefully you and I won't suffer from sweltering humidity. I trust the wisdom of the Cadwal forefathers. Carmag's location wa...

Where would you like to live

If you could choose any place to live, in Mordant and beyond, where would it be? Assume it's post war and friendly rulers reign in all three kingdoms.

My choice: Cadwal's capitol. Great architecture, the Ocean, visitors from distant lands.

The (sub)forum lives! Nice thread, Cord Hurn. There's not a lot about her in the books. But maybe we can still deduce a bit more about her character. Typecasting her as one of the 'ordinary' people that make Mordant (Domne) something worth protecting is true enough. But the Domne already embodies th...

I can accept Terisa as a 22-23 year old. 19 year old Terisa caused a mental dissonance for me. Thank you for all the quote searching, Cord Hurn. Do you have a photographic (or at least reference-book like) memory?

Each Care commands its own army, maybe it's even a feudal system down to regional lords within each Care but when they finally march to war, Castelan Norrick commands Mordant's army. So the Castelan of Orrison is the commander in chief of the king's army.

He didn't fit in with the rest of King Joyce's associates. He was a different kind of bird so I wondered why Joyce chose him to command his armies.

That offer Saddith made, would it be so easy for Geraden to turn down if it wasn't so risky? Say, if she offered to do it in the next room with the door to Terisa's bedroom locked? What if she allowed him to call her Terisa of Morgan while they were doing it?

Lebbick has dark urges. Joyce et al may be responsible for keeping in a position of strength but Lebbick's the one who wants to torture and rape the 'enemies of the kingdom'. Unlike the rest of the cast, Lebbick wants to retaliate in kind to Alend (and Cadwal). He's not all that better than them. Ho...

Zarathustra's last point touches on something I've promised to post on at length (but haven't got around to). Lord Foul (as we learn in TPTP understands perfection and despises life because life is imperfect and mortal. This has led me to the conjecture that in his origins Foul represented the cosm...
