That sounds about right. And to reiterate, I don't know that these principles carry over into the transfinite realm. We can show that any n -dimensional space, for n greater than 0, has Continuum-many points. So my working assumption is that ℵ0-dimensional space has Continuum-many points (I'm not qu...

What you're talking about is only an internally consistent theory. The math works. It works for String Theory, also. Neither has any actual empirical evidence to support it. The equations of string theory aren't "alternatives" to the equations I started out with. There's no conflict. So i...

Yeah, he's talking about dimensions in a different sense. The stuff I was referencing is provable in pure geometry, has nothing direct to do with dimensions being curled up or varying in size or what. See here for an example.

We do know this. A 4-D being would be a god to us. It would see everything in our world. It could even look inside your stomach and remove your breakfast without cutting through your skin, just like you could remove a dot inside a circle by moving it up into the third dimension, perpendicular to th...

Not the totality of all things, but a given thing. Like, we can see all the sides of a square at the same time, because we're three-dimensional; if we were four-dimensional, we could see all the sides of a cube at the same time; etc. I don't actually know for sure that we can transplant this into th...

The only way we could see all sides of polygons at once is if all sides were transparent, and that goes for polyhedra in general.
You've never read Flatland? They explain this principle very well there. It's an established fact...

I hope we can take it that something exists. Actually, I would challenge that very premise. Not as if to say that, "Nothing exists," is true instead, but rather to call into question the entire question of things existing or not. First, the concept of existence is perhaps not very clear i...

Mulder and Scully: spend years and years traveling the globe, avoiding death from a dozen different directions, jumping down as many rabbit holes as they can find, in hopes of bringing proof of aliens to the public. Fail. The Navy: LOL let's post some videos on Facebook. I was thinking, maybe these ...

I'm excited for the third novel. The first was interesting but not as much as the second and I love the premise of people who don't naturally have the concept of divine beings.

A model of Smolin's postulate

I'm referring to Lee Smolin and his idea of changing laws of physics. So there is an article in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy on something called infinitary logic . The idea is to have a language allowing conjunctions, variables, and quantifiers with ranges indexed by transfinite numbers. ...

I can't... I just can't. I just started reading the novel Q, the Luther Blissett(sp.?) one. He says it all started on October 31st when Martin Luther posted his 95 theses.

He says this is when his battle with Q began.

I just can't. :?: :!!!: :(

Well I made my way back to Utah....

... just in time for the apocalypse  I'm working for a temp agency, staying at a shelter in Salt Lake City. Still no sign of Dean but I am weirdly hopeful about his reappearance, even now, especially now. I am also surprisingly taking my medication as prescribed, though in light of recent even...

The Shores of the Land

Usual fanfiction disclaimers apply. THEME/BACKGROUND AFAIK, Sheriff Lytton and Jeremiah's sisters survived, so to bring IRL people back into the mix, I'm having these be the ones who are summoned to the Land's plane of existence. The premise is that not only did the Despiser inspire a cult in our wo...

The technical error in the capitalist/communist story

The ideological war between capitalism (or various notions close thereto) and communism (and socialism, etc.) is presented in such apocalyptic terms that one wonders whether economic questions really are so morally pivotal. Now, to be sure, the Christian theorist Paul of Tarsus says something like, ...

The different magic systems in the stories

Although not as technically detailed as those in The Wheel of Time or in Brandon Sanderson's major works, there are magic systems in the Covenant novels. One very solid example is the complex of the Sunbane, from the blood ritual magic to its interactions with other manifestations of magic (includin...

I figured that aleph-zero to the power of the Continuum equals the Continuum to the power of the Continuum, as 2 to the power of the Continuum equals the Continuum to the power of the Continuum, and you can switch out aleph-zero for 2 in these kinds of cases. Now the Continuum to the power of aleph-...

In charge of things

Once upon a time, there was a young man who wanted to know who was running the world. The people around him told him to go ask the politicians, since in theory those were the ones in whom authority over the world had been invested. So the young man went to the politicians and asked them, "Do yo...

Aren't the Elohim the spirits of the trees that once formed the One Forest? No, those were supposedly the Viles. How the Dead of the One Forest were able to cross over into Life, long before the breaking of the Laws of Life and Death, is also never explained, although to be sure the belief that the...

So were they just sitting in the Worm's path?

One of the most ill-explored situations in the Last Chronicles is the fate of the Elohim prior to their safeguarding in Jeremiah's fane. Like, the Worm isn't especially fast and seemed pretty consistent in its approach to the Land, so how come so many stars started disappearing along the way? The El...
