I threw my copy of LFB into the ditch just before I was picked up by the police as homeless in 1979 and then given over to the good graces of the Rescue Mission in Trenton. I immediately joined the Navy as the quickest way, sans hitchhiking, to make it back to New Mexico. Yes I had already had my p...

The only other fantasy works I can think of that had as big an impact were the Arbai novels of Sheri S. Tepper, in particular "Grass" and "Raising the Stones." I was very young at the time - I can't vouch for the brilliance of the writing style or anything like that - but I remem...

He didn't want to live in the Land for the simple reason that he was now capable of living in the real world, and wanted to do so. The reason I have trouble with imagining the bolded part to be true is that Covenant is so messed up (already) at the very start of the Second Chrons - though, of cours...

If Ridjeck Thome is the Leprosaium, would that make Revelstone the Hospital were Dr.Berensford works. Covenant had a dream while in the boat with Foamfollower something about being lifted into the ambulance. The Courthouse might be Mt.Thunder. Everyone forgets about the offices of the Bell Telephon...

For me the reason was simple. I just prefer the TC first person and not the Linden. I remember when I wa reading the second chronicles the very first time I kept wondering when I would be returing to TC point of view. I guess I liked his personal strife (internal thoughts and comments) more than Li...

Not if the Creator always knew he would not stay. The Creator knew Covenant, probably made him the way he was. I'd say it was a safe bet on his part. I've never been sure that the Creator made our world too - I kind of thought that it would defeat the purpose of the Creator not being able to meddle...

When I picture Cillian Murphy acting aggressively I think of the excellent film Disco Pigs in which he starred - so I see him as a lone, troubled, but highly dangerous psycho rather than a stoic warrior-type. But Troy is NOT a stoic warrior type, and he'd be very miscast if he were cast as a stoic ...

Why has no one suggested suggested he play Hile Troy? I'm slowly being won over to the idea that Hile Troy was black, though. I'm actually picturing Samuel Jackson as Troy now... he is very good at the accusatory tone that Troy often uses against Covenant, and I could picture him as a military man....

Call them the GuardBlood. Or the Bloodtroth Guardians. I relate to Covenant quite heavily, and have done since a scarily young age, now that I look back on it. God help me, I'd even call him a formative influence on my life! I can relate to Linden and her problems too. I haven't killed anybody or ra...

He never wanted to be a great hero or saviour, and above all I don't think he trusts himself to live on in the Land as the great messiah, and probably the new High Lord. The adulation and power, plus his disbelief - after so many years of isolation and impotence in the real world - would drive him m...

But it gets overbearingly wordy at times. That's meant to be a good-natured dig at SRD's writing style, but I know what you mean. Taking quite wordy and complicated passages, and making them even wordier and more complicated, probably wasn't a good idea. Glad you enjoyed it, though. I hope I can ge...

BTC, Does TPTP describe it as green? I always remembered it being white. If not; well, good call. Yay! I didn't just imagine something for once! Side by side, they penetrated the gloom of Foul's Creche. To their surprise, the darkness vanished as if they had passed through a vale of obscurity. Beyo...

THOOLAH is one of the reasons I signed up, even though I actually like Linden, and can understand her occassional indecisiveness (even when it leads to harm befalling others), and even when she does something reprehensible like to Cail, because... well, because it's exactly what Covenant was like al...

Re: no junkies?

given the amount ov psycostimulants in the land u wud get sum ?holics? The Clave got pretty uptight if they thought they weren't going to get their blood supplies. And the Ravers were addicted to Foul's "reek of attar" - apparently empowered and pleasured by his, um, scent. Nobody who got...

Re: The Leprosarium and Foul's Creche

Excellent post, and excellent point. Never thought of that before! Never thought Hile Troy was black or that TC was young during LFB either, but I can see it now after reading here for a time. These boards are an education. Is Foul's Creche supposed to represent the Leprosarium? It is described as s...
