Which Manethrall?

BTW, my favorite star of the story wasn't a single character. Instead, I vote for the ur-Viles (collectively). Those little guys made it all possible!

Here's another truism:
Castigation is a doom that achieves itself. In punishing yourself, you come to merit punishment.

I don't think there's a lot of mystery here. In TIW when Elena and Covenant were preparing to depart from Revelwood, SRD specifically says that Elena was able to project her voice upward so that all in the tree could hear her. Since several Lords did the same over the course of the series, it's prob...

Metal Age is loads of fun. The voice of Karras is quite hilarious--not unlike Droopy Dog from the old cartoons. Two levels in MA are particuarly good: "The Bank" and "Life of the Party."

It's tough to rank them. My top five (in no particular order) are:

1. Homeworld
2. Baldurs Gate II: Shadows of Amn
3. Diablo II
4. Wizardry 8
5. Thief (1 and 2)

Definitely hearing you on this one. You might want to do what I did and finish the level in the middle of the day with someone else in the house. 8O

That has to be some of the best ambient sound in gaming history.

As a PC gamer from way back, here are my picks for best music: Homeworld: From the magnificent choral rendering of Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei in the intro to the stirring combat themes, the game was a triumph (with the possible exception of the rather bland finale song by "Yes"). Remember t...

The Thief series is spectacular. It's arguably the most underrated gaming franchise around. Deadly Shadows is a solid, fun game, but isn't quite up to the standard of its predecessors in level design/scope or sense of immersion. (The one exception being the Cradle Orphanage. Sheesh! Don't play that ...

Let's not forget the Mallory who disappeared on Everest in 1924! Of course, he was found by an expedition in 1999, so maybe not.

Lord C, who realizes that "In pursuit of Irvine" might be a better header.

The people who jump up and down yelling, 'Ooh! Ooh! I'm a leader! Pick me! Pick me!' are the most hopeless non-leaders you'll ever find.
I completely agree. Who was it that said, "Anyone who ernestly desires to be President should in no wise be allowed to do the job." :?:

The good news is that you don't have to be terribly familiar with any other SF titles to really appreciate Adams' humor. I first read the books when I was in my early teenage years and couldn't stop laughing. I still enjoy them and, like you, purchased the omnibus edition. If you're someone who can ...

The old Warmark's voice was gruff with urgency as he said, "High Lord, this risk will weaken Revelstone. A third of the Warward--two thousand lives wasted. High Lord--why? Have you become like Kevin Landwaster? Do you wish to destroy that which you love?" "No!" Mhoram whispered ...

I seem to remember that the phrase "Banas Nimoram" was the ancient name for the "Celebration of Spring." I don't have my copy of LFB with me right now and can't verify that, but I think it would make sense given the setting in which the Unfettered One let loose the cry. In any ev...

My best guess would be that it's probably contained in one of the Wards that were undiscovered by the Lords. If you remember, the word "duroc" was not used by the Lords in LFB. However, by the time of TIW, it had appeared just after "abatha." Sounds like the Lords discovered &quo...

Interesting, count me in as another mormon suffering from arboreal tendancies. The aspens are particularly spectacular this week.

Pray tell, which of our resident forestals is in charge of the aspens? You have my deepest respect!
