Well, Shatterstar, I heard somewhere that as you age you're suppposed to get more enlightened or something like that, and be able to find the mini-skirts on Trek demeaning and implausible. Since I haven't changed my attitudes one iota since I first watched the show thirty years ago, I thought I shou...

That was also the year I read Brooks' The Sword of Shannara, Richard Adams' Watership Down, Alan Dean Foster's Icerigger, and got into the Dray Prescot and Richard Blade series.

But who's keeping track? :P

I think the ladies on the original series had an unfair advantage over the later series. They got to wear those micro-mini-skirts. :P

I read the first three as they were published (1977, 1982 and 1985) and very much enjoyed them. Brooks had this ability to set up scenes and then resolve them just as I think I would have done it had I been writing it. I also liked the way he was willing to occasionally knock off good characters, wh...

Folks, I totally made up my Indy IV plot. If that turns out to be even remotely close to the actual plot, the movie would be nothing more than a bad parody.

Apparently my warped sense of humor hasn't become familiar to everyone here yet. :P

Another example of the law of diminishing returns, like the Star Trek series. The first one is a fairly faithful adaptation of Crichton's work, his best novel, in my opinion. And a very clever and well-executed film. The second and third movies have their moments, but the premise is more contrived a...

My favorite was probably Miramanee from The Paradise Syndrome, but Rayna would have been a contender, I agree. :)

I've just started Silverbob's The Alien Years - a hundred pages into it, pretty good so far.

I believe Doomfarers was first published in 1977. Ancient by some standards. :o

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out that O'Hara reference, too. Who the heck is that?

If you don't mean Seven of Nine, perhaps you're referring to Yeoman Rand from the original series? Grace Lee Whitney was the actress's name. I've seen her twice at conventions. She didn't hold up that well. :P

Cromas, I also like this book. Did you ever read the sequel, The Starfollowers of Coramonde? Not quite as good, in my opinion, but still a nice read. Daley went on to write a Han Solo trilogy, which I liked. Then he tried his hand at another military sf series, which I couldn't get into. I understan...

Temple of Doom had the best slogan for any movie ever - "If adventure has a name, it must be Indiana Jones." The fourth movie's plot is this: Indy and Henry Jones, Sr. break out of a Miami nursing home and search for the legendary Fountain of Youth in the Everglades. It's purely personal i...

dAN, you mean Super Bowl Thirty-Six, not Twenty-Six. :P I think homefield advantage is more important for my team than any other in the NFL. Next Saturday (nationally televised games) is critical. If my Chiefs can beat Minnesota (late afternoon game) and New England get upset by the Jets (evening ga...

I like all three - probably Crusade the best. The character of Indy's father was a brilliant stroke. The movies are masterpieces of combining action, humor and story into edge-of-you-seat suspenseful tales. I'm really looking forward to the fourth one, except I do wish that Spielberg had gotten on t...

Ermingard, I would have to agree with you. I actually like the Joan of Arc mini-series, but The Messenger was pretty lame.'

Not Battlefield Earth lame, but pretty lame.

Ermingard, are you speaking of the Joan of Arc mini-series from television (starring Leelee Sobieski, the Helen Hunt lookalike) or The Messenger, the Joan of Arc theatrical movie starring the woman who was the female lead in The Fifth Element (her name escapes me)? Or maybe you didn't like either on...

We seem to be on the same wavelength, Cromas. I even agree re: Star Trek II Wrath of Khan. With one exception - I still consider Star Trek IV The Voyage Home the best of the films, with II a close second.

Good point, Cromas, that Enterprise appears to be falling into the Voyager trap. And I can see no even remotely plausible way to explain why all this enormously momentous events occurring in the Delphic Expanse has never since been mentioned by the Federation or Starfleet . . . unless it's all a par...

I've been a Trekker for over thirty years. I own all the original series episodes, all the movies. I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode of every series at least once, including the animated one. However, I would rank the shows in the following order: Original, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Vo...
