The change that comes over Covenant after he faces Gibbon/Sheol in the hall of gifts is breathtaking. His sense of purpose and his vision is so well honed at this point. He has truly become the white gold wielder now. Agreed. He utters the greatest line of any book when he says. "I'm going to ...

It's a good book despite some things i didn't like, but no way no how is it better than any of the first six. More power to you if you feel that way though.

The blood letting scene in The Wounded Land when we saw what happened to the Land after TC's defeat of Lord Foul. It also ties in directly to what is one of my favorite all time moments when TC rsises The Krill from the bottom of Glimmermere after being there for 4000 years. Truly epic and full of s...

I hadn't thought of that comparison but it is spot on. SRD's version came off much less hokey and campy though.

Well, the Elohim was wildly against him completeing the structure so i'm going to say if any aren't trapped in there already, they will be. In the past they've never reacted to anything this strongly unless it meant the end for one one of them. On another note, this was by far the best scene and bes...

I also agree with much that has been said here. There are two major things that brought this book down. First and foremost there was entirely too much inner dialogue, too much self introspection. It was so overdone i had to force myself through these parts time and time again. Secondly, the use of a...

This is assuming this isn't another misdirection and Covenant isn't really back from the dead. We could just as easily find out he refuses the summoning or somehowe reverses it. Hellfire, Donaldson could make it happen in a number of ways.

It's something to think about.

Even with all that power, Linden still needs Covenent to get the job done. Never mind that the guy has done it twice already and has been dead for five thousand years. More reason why i'm not a fan of hers.

Toolah forever!

The krill has always been my favorite piece of power in the entire series. Covenent raising it from Glimmemere after four thousand years remains my favorite moment in all the books combiined. It was especially goosebumpy after Gibbon showed TC the truth of what happened to the Land after his defeat ...

I'm probably the only person here who did not cheer when this happened. The battle of the First Woodhelven was the most piled-on collection of Donaldsonian archetypes as I've ever seen. Just before the sandgorgons showed up, I was thinking: my god, what next? Foul himself striding into battle with ...

I was around nineteen or twenty. I'm 41 now. My brother turned me on to LFB. I read it than stopped because i didn't like it. He said to keep reading until i got to "The Land"

Needless to say i'm glad i listened to my brother.

Who or what is a THOOLAH? Help a long time noob out.

I've actually never cared for Linden at all. Nothing about her invokes any kind of feeling whatsoever. She has a complete lack of personality about her in my mind. Her incessant introspection is exhausting. I neither root for her or against her.

You could also write it off to the Haruchai's interpretation of a summoning. Perhaps they only count actual successes rather than attempts.

I'm still trying to figure out the significance of that race car. I bet that when all is said and done, it's the final piece to a construct that saves the land or sends Linden and Jeremiah home.

arenn, that was a very well thought out post and must agree with you on many points. What has changed for me the most is it appears that the newness of it all has worn off. Lindens healing of Pitchwife

I remember a conversation in White Gold Weilder concerning Pitchwife's deformity. The First had mentioned it was a key to her love for him yet Linden "fixed" it with the Staff of Law. I realize she did so to steady herself and to help prepare her to heal the land. I wonder what the afterma...

Even though i have my complaints, i have to admit i read it cover to cover in a week. Nights only too. That HAS to count for something. I felt it was just too much like a greatest hits album though. Like others have said, it's only a precursor to what will come later. I for one have faith in Donalds...
