Looks like the Tor is the clear winner here. Makes you think about Joyse: he creates this huge vortex by becoming/appearing frail and, somehow, for their own good (and, of course, for the survival of Mordant), the Caretakers are being sucked into it. How they individually emerge for the vortex (if they emerge) hones their respective character to a diamond-like quality.

The Tor definatley. Drinks himself into the job of 'ruling' Mordant, and then gets 'kicked' out...

Definately the Tor. He has a lot of deep emotions, and despite whatever Joyse does to hurt him he sticks around (although that was just to be a stubborn thorn in Joyse's side ^^)
It's a poor sort of memory, that only works backwards...
