Penselene Wand

Post by JIkj fjds j »

Here are some pictures of a Penselene Wand I'm working on.
When activated - I'll try out some jiggery-pokkery spells at the next full moon - the Wand should be able to write moon letters.

Here's its length measured against a 12 inch ruler.

A close up of my first attempt whittling wood.

With the Selenite crystal inserted into the Wand
I think it looks pretty cool.

... and the Penselene tip.

Of course I'm sure most of you will think this magik wand
to be nothing more than a Bamstick,
but then,
I've been mad for fuggin years!

Never heard of it, so I googled "Penselene Wand". The first thing that came up was your post. Heh

I did the same thing. It sounded Druidic to me, though some of the matches for moon letters pertain to Tolkien.

In a different thread, Rune wrote:I'm making a wand at the moment, out of tree wood and selenite crystal. I'm calling it a Penselene. To write moon letters with. It's been taking ages to complete, mainly because I haven't been exactly sure what on earth I'm doing. But lately things have been clearer in my mind and I think I know what it is I wish to write. Questions, will definitely be one of them.

The wood is aspen. A dense grain. Quite difficult to shape out a triangular shaft in order to accommodate the wand of Selenite.
As this was my first attempt I hadn't an adequate collection of whittling and drilling tools, and so might have been a tad ambitious with the length of crystal I used.
A small clump of clear quartz would have made the job far more easier.

To finish up the first stage of the wand I had to eventually shave the crystal with a stanley blade to fit the wooden shaft, rather than drilling and filing out the shaft to the size of the crystal. Something I was loathe to do but finally gave in.

As I live on the top floor of a tower block I thought the design of a belfry was appropriate to personalizing the wand. Although, very dissapointed I failed to carve a keystone into each of the four arches.
In spiritual circles there are some who hold to the belief the possibilities of psychic attack. So just like anti-virus on a computer, good vibrations from above can do pretty much the same thing.

Hence: the wood being aspen, the stone selenite, and its purpose to write with - the Penselene Wand.

 Do I detect a note of sarcasm!

To be fair, my interests are more of a hobby these days. And like most things in life you shouldn't go believing all you read in those story books - wizardry is a young man's game.

No sarcasm. You're doing things the way a wizard would in a book. Symbolic representation; flexibility; etc.

Did some more work on it this evening.
Having to improvise with tools not suited to the job, so attaching a crown piece has been time consuming.

Umm ... what? How are you going to "activate" this piece of wood? What difference does it make where the Moon is? What are jabberwocky spells? What are moon letters, aside from the fictional concept in the Hobbit? Is this a serious thread, or are we just having fun?

I had a bad feeling about using the words, jiggery-pokkery.
I am serious about how I practice meditation and yoga. The wand is an extension of those practices.
And it's also fun.

Yes, it's finished - with the option of being redefined.

The Wand was never intended as having anything to do with Kevinswatch, or the works of SRD. However, I thought it might provide some insight into how the Land might find some healing, ie, the fusion of wood and stone in order to perform a specific arcane task. Imagination.
(I now like the idea that 'Penselene' rhymes, slightly, with 'penicillin', having spiritual healing overtones.)
Or, in Land-born terms, such a Wand might merely be a component to a broader design. Like the arm and stylus for a record turntable.
What tunes might you play on such a deck? - (Meet) the Flintstones?

Had not seen this thread the first time around.

When I saw "Penselene" in the thread title, I thought this might be related to something from the Narnia tales...but that's just my dyslexic free-association of the children's surname.
