Star Wars: Luke should have taken Vader's deal

Post by aTOMiC »

After Darth Vader dropped the rather dramatic bomb that he was Luke Skywalker's father in Empire Strikes Back he made Luke a wonderful proposal. "Luke, come with me and I'll complete your training...together we can rule the galaxy as father and son." Of course I'm paraphrasing but I'm sure you recognize the moment I'm referring to.

Luke rashly blurted out "I'll never join you!".

I don't think Luke thought the deal through and rejected it in a moment of high tension and self doubt. Frankly I'd be a bit cross with someone that had just hacked off my hand too. Its unavoidable. However the deal that Darth Vader is trying to present to Luke would have had many perks and advantages and spending time with one's absentee father is frankly priceless even if it meant doing a lot of really bad things. You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. Anyone will tell you that.

I used to think Luke made the only choice possible in the aforementioned scenario however the events of the last week or so have opened my eyes to a number of alternative Star Warsian possibilities that I had never considered before. Its time to open up the playbook and see if we can score a touchdown by throwing the ball in the opposite direction of the goal line.

Yoda wasn't warning Luke about the Dark Side. "Quicker. Easier. More seductive." He was selling it to him. Just like he did to Daddy Vader.

It all makes sense now.

Learning the family business from your Dad is heartwarming, especially when you are warming hearts with dark side force bolts until they explode.

Sure. Luke and Anakin can share special moments.

Anakin: "You know son, I remember when I first murdered younglings. Put 'er there Son. You are chip off the old block."
"I think and feel everything aTOMiC does only slower."
