Hey... don't knock it.. Av's not the only one who won't do Facebook.
(except I know, I know... y'all thought there was a way to get on a Messenger chat w/out having to do Facebook... and so we were like "Avatar would do that!"
and then ali was like "Avatar is going to get on this? Cool! I will stay up late just to SEE if he actually shows up!")

Anyway, RE "don't knock it"...
We've got at least 3 Watchers (including Av) who we love and chatter with often here on GenDisc who won't Facebook. So...
Let's keep the Chatbane outpost operational!

Also, sky, I'm one of those people who LOVES discussions in small groups of people...
it's a different dynamic.
(and chatbane as a platform is a different dynamic from Facebook Messenger.)
And I bet I'm not the only personality that's suited to!

There is no problem monitoring two platforms ..

.. I mean sure you gotta have two devices running in concert .. but .. lol .. no biggy.

But first before I concede defeat allow me to clear up a few misconceptions

1. Creating a fb account does not require you to volunteer personal info

2. Creating a fb account does not require you to include photographic evidence of who you are

3. Creating a fb account does not require you to engage socially with anyone

4. Creating a fb only provides you with a connection with the people you nominate or otherwise approve

5. Creating a fb account can create an absolute void, a vacuum of data if you will .. by the mere act of doing nothing

Handy FAQs

Q. Will I be bugged with notifications of fb activities of the people I approved
A. Not unless you want to receive notifications. You can deselect them in settings

Q. Will browsers steal my personal data
A. Only if your account volunteers personal data. No personal data, no data to steal

Q. Will my personal pic be used to fraudulently impersonate me
A. If you dont upload a personal pic .. there is nothing to steal. If you do upload a personal pic, wtf does any right minded human want with your pic. If you do upload a pic, wtf does any wrong minded human want with your pic. And why the fuck would anyone care about your pic

LOL And ... your image is already on the interweb.. right here on the Watch, along with a few hundred other personal images of other Watchers.

Q. But if I have a fb account, that means Im a sell out to social media.
A. No it doesnt... unless you USE it .. you are not engaged in social media, period.

Q. Can I actually have a dead fb account
A. Hell yes, there is no fb law that says you have to have a live account. It can sit idle forever, even after you die, it will remain untouched and unused.

Q. All I have to do to use messenger is create a fb account that I will never use, upload data, pics etc to
A. Yes .. pretty simple.

Q. Am I stubborn as all get out
A. Irrefutably

Q. Am I overly paranoid in what I think fb can do

Not that it is relevant to me, because I have a facebook account, but it seems that you can use messenger without a Facebook account. Just choose "Not on Facebook" and enter your phone number and name (could be fictional).

Alternatively, sign up to Facebook and deactivate your account - and keep using Messenger. Then you can chat with all your Watchy friends.

Think that's only to use it on your phone.

Well, since you asked it as a question, I'll answer frankly.

I keep convincing myself that my individual use of it will do more good than harm.

Anyway, sky thaaaaank you for hopping on the chatbane to talk about that the other night.
I reaaallly wanted to have a conversation in real-time.
Besides - we got 3 of us together for an extra chatbane chat that way!

BTW, peeps... these chats - both Chatbane and Facebook, and the... other... chat page.
I think they are great for me,
I would say I really overthink my words a lot... second-guess myself when I'm writing a post.
But when it's real-time chat... I love the spontaneity.

I mean... that first chat we had a few months back, I think it was like "Linna is getting drunk with excitement" levels of just saying what I felt like saying, but..........
I was lovin' interacting with peeps from here in a different context...
and it was like an old-skool internetz throwback..

Next chat bane will be GMT 1600hrs TO 1900hrs on 23 June .. thats about a month since the last one.

We are trialling this time frame and will cycle a number of different times to ultimately identify 2 or 3 most successful times, to continue with into the future.

I am hoping the lovely Linna will do the maths and provide an update with relevant times for a range of time zones, including mine .. lol

cos Im useless at getting that right

Pass on the time and encourage the Watchers you know to come along and say hi.
