Total War
Well, the next Total War is out. And for the first time ever, it's not historical.
Total War: Warhammer
I'm not really worried about this one. I'll get it of course, but I can easily wait a couple of years.
(Edited the title to make it a more generic "Total War" thread.")

Warhammer 2 announced: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/0 ... announced/
Meh. I know they're actually planning 3 of these, but I'd hoped we'd get something historical in between...guess not.

Well, picked it up on a very small sale, but thought "what the hell."
Spent my holiday playing it and found it quite enjoyable.
This is not a stand-alone game on the usual scale of things though. This is a "Total War Saga" which are apparently going to be smaller in scale, and allegedly, a bit more experimental.
Some departures from the usual in the franchise, some good, some not.
As above, it's around the founding of England, starting in 878 AD.
Took me about 200 - 250 turns to get an "Ultimate Victory" on normal, and running a couple of small mods, but nothing game-breaking.
Hearkens back quite nicely to Medieval II TW, and enjoyed playing it.
I see a new full-sized one will be coming out next March, "Three Kingdoms" covering China 190CE.
Not really a period I've had much interest in, but will get it at some point anyway.
One interesting thing about the new one is that it will have both a "Classic" mode, based on historical record, and a "Romance" mode, based largely on the famous "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," still widely considered one of the greatest works of Chinese literature, which will have some "fantasy" elements from the novel, like heroic abilities, duels between champions, stuff like that.
