I have only read the "main" Erikson books. Never any Ian Esselmont.
I was very disappointed in some of the choices made in the last two books, and never bothered any more with the shared universe.
I am not one of the people who thinks Korbal Broach and the other loser that hangs around with him are interesting characters.
I also don't really enjoy the kind of "witty" writing used in the character of Kruppe.
So...taking this all into account, should I read any Esslemont books? If so, which one(s)?

Uh, yes, and most of them?
Only one (Orb Sceptre Throne I think) has Kruppe, and he's written a bit differently...not sure I like the change, but been a while.
Night of Knives was definitely worth it (A prequel to GotM), and RotCG wasn't bad for seeing what happens to Laseen / Surly.
Personally, so far the new trilogy (Dancer's Lament and Deadhouse Landing are out) is amongst my favourite.
The other ones aren't spectacular, but they have their moments.
(Also wasn't a big fan of DoD and TCG personally.)

Really? RotCG? To be honest, it has grown on me, but I usually skim (as much as I can) the beginning section with Kyle.
And I've just never been a fan of the whole Skinner thing, dunno why.
(New ones are my favourites, but before that I think it was NoK.) Least favourite is probably Stonewielder.

Seriously, RotCG. Just love it. All the Dassem stuff alone is worth it. On the wall. His "duel" with Kallor. With Skinner??
And I love the beginning. Not for Kyle, though, but for Shen.
Then there's Toc the Elder. Ereko is great. Osserc. Rell.
Laseen shows up.
Cowl shows up, and Surprise!
Kinda hard to think of a reason NOT to love the book.
