Yeah, I'm actually enjoying it less and less.

The thing is, for the vast majority of the past, they are being pretty faithful to the source material given their constraints.

But, it's just not "hooking" me as WF said above. I doubt I'll carry on. Also, the GF (who has read The Stand once, long ago) says she doubts anybody who hasn't will understand what's going on.

Six episodes in and we finally get Trash.

Don't like what was done with the bomb. Don't care for the changes to Dayna, the Judge, and Tom's stories in Vegas.

But damn the guy who's playing Harold is killing it.

This will never make a good show/movie because it was never a good book.

I ended up ranking it near the bottom of King books after some reflection. It's way too long and the ending (you guessed it) sucks. It had lots of potential, though.

Yeah, I know. But I did remember this initial enthusiastic post, and found it to be a funny reply.

Well, Harold is
Spoiler
finally dead.
Very disappointed by Trash (And no Sarge, the Kid never showed up.)

Pretty much stopped watching it, although the GF is carrying on. (She only read the book once and doesn't remember it that well.)

I had such hopes...

For everything the show's getting right, it's messing up a dozen things. Vegas isn't supposed to be Gomorrah, it's supposed to be an orderly place where all the techies went. I don't care that there was no hand of god, but having a mini-stand by Flagg's guys? C'mon man.

Oddly, my wife has no familiarity with the story at all and is really enjoying it.

Yeah I didn't watch the last couple episodes. It's somehow worse when they get some stuff really right and the rest completely wrong.

(Had the same issue with The Watch series...so much wrong...That was worse though, couldn't get past 2 or 3 episodes.)

What a pile of crap. The only good thing was The Stranger.

It reminded me of the Dark Tower movie. In that it was a pile of crap, too.

I thought you meant Watchmen for a minute. Got me all fired up. Then I saw my error.

I like Richard Dormer (Captain Sam Vimes) though. He totally made Fortitude awesome. Guy is a little unhinged. Haven't really seen that stuff since Rutger Hauer.

Don't dignify the Dark Tower movie by calling it a pile of crap. It couldn't even aspire to being a pile of crap. :D

The Watch series, (which I made a whole thread for) is clearly not intended for anybody who has actually read the Terry Pratchett books...a sad adulteration of his legacy. :( (I actually assumed nobody here had watched it. :D )

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

i watched maybe 15 minutes of the first episode of the new mini series.
that was all i could take!!

Creator watched the whole thing. you know how you watch Jaws 4 and you keep thinking it's going to get better but it never does. same thing with this mini series he said. LOL. he said (and i quote) it makes the FIRST mini series look like high art! :haha:
i love my husband.
and listen...he is the MOST tolerant when it comes to this stuff. he loves the old IT mini series and even found things to like about those 2 new travesties that andy muschietti (the director) calls movies!! (yeah i couldn't watch either of those either, even more disappointing than kubricks version of the shining! I KNOW BLASPHEMY!! LOL)

so yeah...do i have high hopes for Lisey's Story. no. will i watch it? yes.

Well, I have to admit that The Stand does suffer from the classic Stephen King misfortune of not getting the ending it deserves. Then again, when you're story leads up to the confrontation of archetypal evil vs archetypal good at the End of the World, it's just about impossible to write an ending that lives up to the hype.

(Chad C. Smith did it. The Fall of the First World. But he's the only author I know of who has.)

I can't say how it affects it's possible adaptation, but I agree it was a shitty story. Probably the last King book I read and I really didn't enjoy it. I liked Cell a lot more.
