The whole idea of the Galactic Barrier was pretty stupid.
But that was loooooong ago. Gene couldn't have imagined the success of the whole thing, and, therefore, the need to deal with it down the road.
But it happened. Gary Mitchell was a excellent story, even if the reason for him was stupid. So CERTAINLY there should have been some psionic issues! At least discussion! How's is that not mentioned when they're flying into it?? (Or did I miss a conversation?)
Ten C was pretty cool. Always nice when writers try to come up with truly alien forms of consciousness or communication. This was pretty good. Even more alien would be good, and expected. But there's a point where it's so alien that we can't communicate with it, or even recognize it exists. Given the amount of time they had to tell the story, this was an entirely acceptable scenario. Nice how they sent the code so we code understand. AAA B A, etc. Reminds me of Sagan's Contact.
Not sure how I feel about the fact that they had no idea they were wiping out sentient beings. Sure, they're so different from the sentient beings they were wiping out that they wouldn't recognize an individual is sentient. But didn't they see the starships flying around??? Didn't they see strange energies that aren't naturally occurring, and check it out first? How do you not realize that's the result of sentience? And had they never recognized another sentient species before? If you knew you were not there only sentience in existence, wouldn't you want to be careful before wiping out solar systems?
Book should be doing hard labor. Fucking ridiculous what he did. Glad there other guy is dead.
I really like Michael, though. Liking her more with each season. Great character. Saru getting himself a Vulcan babe is great!
