After a few other books by Abercrombie, I am thinking I will take a trip back through The Tales of the Black Company / Books of the South by Glen Cook. Another favorite read.

I suggest reading them in chronological order (not the order I read them in), so Best Served Cold first, and then Red Country.
And yes, great characterisation. Logan is, ultimately, a tragic figure. Definitely one of my favourite.
Anyway, I finished the "Broken Empire" books, then went on to William Gibson's Pattern Recognition, (I would love to see a modern sequel) and now reading Zero History by the same author.

Finished the Second Chrons and now I'm off Donaldson for a while. White Gold Wielder is mostly 'moping while travelling' and it started to annoy me big time. Both the midgame boss fight and endgame boss fight are properly satisfying, but everything in felt repetitive. Also, I now want to read a book without the words "exigency" and "clench" in it

Moping while travelling - that's a classic synopsis!!Spiral Jacobs wrote: ↑ Finished the Second Chrons and now I'm off Donaldson for a while. Well, I decided to re-read L Ron Hubbard's Mission Earth books. Say what you like about him, guy could write some sci-fi.
According to historical forum data, I last read these books in 2010. (I actually thought it was longer ago.)
Having to pack and unpack my books made me do a lot of "I should read that again."
Anyway, started book 1, The Invaders Plan, last night. The satire is real, but given his...extra-authorial...situation, I find myself constantly asking exactly which bit is satirical and which polemic.

Just finished Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. Didn’t like thi first third of it but it gradually grew on me! Haven’t decided if I’ll read the rest of the Southern Reach books.. will probably finish Killing God first.

I’m currently reading The Killing God. It will take me a while because it’s a hefty book, and my reading habits will mean I’ll still be going several weeks down the track!
But I’m looking forward to getting into the SRD forum to give my 2 cents worth when the time comes.

Must really get those.
Anyway, finished Book 2, Black Genesis, now busy on Book 3, The Enemy Within.
I'm also finding quite a bit of the prose sadly dated, considering the series' mid-80's publication.

Finished First Law books. I had forgotten just how good they were. I downloaded Best Served Cold and will read that three book series next. I was going to move on to the Tales of the Black Company re-read but now that I am immersed in this universe I figure I may as well keep rolling.

Currently in The Name of the Wind.
I think I'd like to reread the full Malazan series sometime, but it's just so many pages. I did MoI a couple of months ago and I sort of remember what happens at the end, but all those books in the middle....no idea. I am thinking of incorporating Icarium and Mappo in my D&D campaign, though.

Read Mission Earth book 4, An Alien Affair, then took a break to read Chuck Palahniuk's The Invention of Sound (not sci-fi or fantasy though) which was...OK. Find him a bit of an over-wrought author really. I also have Pygmy sitting on the shelf waiting (a work colleague lent them to me because he wanted my opinion on them) but I've put it aside in favour of going back to Mission Earth, book 5, Fortune of Fear.

Note to self: do the research next time. After finishing this book I learned that Rothfuss is pulling a GRRM.Spiral Jacobs wrote: ↑ Currently in The Name of the Wind.

And yes, Malazan is so damned many pages! Those of us who don’t read with Avatar's speed have a serious disadvantage. I would have read the whole series several times if it wasn’t such an undertaking. The fact that I read the first four books 3 times is nothing short of extraordinary for me.

Finished Pierce Brown's Iron Gold.
His Red Rising series was OK, so thought I'd continue into the next series. YA material, so an easier/faster read.

I just started reading Bram Stoker's Dracula again. I think it's the 5th reread. I really love this book. So many little details I miss or forget. It's a fast read but really transports me to where it takes place.
