Hello everybody,

I am probably an exeption around here. Only this summer did I discover the books of Donaldson. On the other hand I have the first three books in their first (Brittish) edition from the seventies. They were given to me by my father in law, who knows my craving for good fantasy. Since I had never heard his name I thought that maybe these were the only books he had written. Was I wrong. The man is still writing, and I discovered he had a site. With a forum and chat and lots of other nice people who like to read, i love it. The site has given me a lot more to read

Hi.

Another newbie finds himself perched on Kevin's Watch...

My first experience reading SRD was (I think) Mordant's Need and/or The Real Story in the early nineties. It was the Gap series that made him my favourite author - I just love the intensity of it, the characters, the plot, the action, the imagery. I think Donaldson has improved continually as a writer - therefore, I have to say, The First Chronicles are his weakest books (I'm currently halfway through a reread of the 2nd Chrons, and enjoying them much more).

About me, if you're interested (and if you're not, then tough :P ): I'm just about to start the third year of a creative writing degree and would like to make a living as a fantasy writer. Haven't had anything published yet, but I'm working on it. I'm also a member of the British Fantasy Society, which, hopefully, will be hosting an evening with our favourite writer in November.

Hi Melenkurion,

Not being Brittish, what is the British Fantasy Society? Is it pure for writers, or broader as in people who love fantasy? And have you put stories on the net somewhere to read?

Many Greetings,

Dilthey

P.S. Thank You all for a gracious welcome.

Greetings.

A little bit about me, eh? Well, I first read SRD when the First Chronicles first came out--I own the first edition, first printing, all three cost about $18 total.

Did I just date myself? And isn't that still illegal in 23 states?

Anyway, imagine my delight when I found out that the Last Chronicles were due out soon, and that there was a MB devoted to all things SRD.

Sweet. And so sweet that Darrell K. Sweet isn't doing the covers.
