Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Post by Fist and Faith »

I just watched this again, and realized I had still not made a thread for it! Absolutely shameful of me.

CTHD is tied with a few movies for my favorite ever. The story, the acting, the choreography of the fights, the cinematography, the music, the humor, the tribute to the Hong Kong flicks of decades past... I'm in awe every time I watch it.

And as I've mentioned, there's a CTHD comic book. It's stunning! The art is superb. The detail of things like hair, faces, shattering wood, etc etc, is awesome. And many pages are in beautiful water colors. I can't recommend this comic enough. And it's not a movie adaptation, it's a different adaptation of the original books, by Wang Du Lu, which I believe are still only in Chinese. At least they're not in English.

Actually, the comic book is much more powered than the movie, more like Jedi. Li Mu Bai, and others, manipulated their surroundings to a much greater degree than in the movie. And the first time we ever see the Green Destiny sword, it says:
Upon the appearance of the Green Destiny sword, the spectators were mesmerized by its grand power.
It wasn't just beautiful, and sharp and strong, it radiated power.
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
-Paul Simon

I watched it again on saturday, understood it better this time (last time many of the characters looked the same to me and I got a bit confused). It was better because I understood what was going on.

Enjoy the movie alot. The only thing that I didn't like was the flying in the fight scenes. I'm not sure why, but the flying, it annoys me. :?

Otherwise, fantastic.

The ending was the best!
Totally not a Hollywood ending.
My jaw was open the whole last 10 minutes.
Outstanding.[/spoiler]

It annoyed me, too. Finally, I find someone who agrees with me on that! Heh, yes, I came here just to bug Fist. :P But I'll take his word that the comic book is a great work.
